Exactly..............a lot of posters are not understanding what an extension does.

They add extra years to his current contract, but at significantly reduced base salaries. Why would the player agree to do this? Because they will guarantee those lower base salaries or a percentage of them.

And why would the Cowboys want to guarantee money to a 30+ year old receiver whose production has declined each year?

It seems almost certain that Dez is gone on Friday. That’s a shame because his contract, as written now, makes him easy to trade.

Surely some team out there would give up at least a late round pick and take a flyer on him? Chicago comes to mind. And we need to be sure that he doesn’t land in the division.

Black Friday eh!! Dez is a lightening rod. I just hope the lightening doesn't strike us if he's cut and goes to an NFC east team or the Packers

Makes no sense imo to cut him.
No free agents to give the $$$$$ to.
Puts pressure on us in draft to grab a WR high
Daks regression hurt EVERY WR.
This is exactly what the team needs to be thinking. Cutting him made $ sense at beginning of March.

Doing it now makes this receiving core bottom 10 in the league with a QB who needs as much help as possible.

There is no WR in the draft that will replace Dez. Why is Terrance not getting his feet held to the fire? $ can’t be a consideration at this point in offseason UNLESS a trade for a vet like ET is in the works

Jerry won't even mention a pay cut. It'll be:
"I'm behind you 100%. I know how valuable you are to this team and I'm proud of how you handled this off-season with the ridiculous rumors circulated by the media. Let's go out and win a Super Bowl."

Much ado about nothing.

Time to cut Dez and go trade for Earl Thomas. Nothing higher than a 4th though

TWill can't have his feet held to the fire. He has a foot injury and they don't want to make it worse. Seriously his 2018 salary in guaranteed so they would save nothing cutting him so I'm sure that plays into it.

What is TWill not doing to hold his feet to the fire? He's done well with the targets he has gotten. He doesn't have a bad attitude, he doesn't drop a lot of balls, and he doesn't make many mistakes (needed to run out of bounds 2 years ago).

I forget which game it was, but I believe it was Aikman who was pointing out how Twill was consistently getting open but Dak wasn't looking in his direction.

Personally, I think TWill should have been targeted more. I know a lot of people don't like him probably because of his body catching, but I think he has been under-utilized and believe he would have much better numbers elsewhere.

Any receiver that does not catch with his hands shouldn't even be on the field. He does not get as open as we think. He has zero catch radius and he would not start on any team in the nfl hence why no one even wanted to give him a bag of chips when he was a free agent. Why we glorify a guy that sucks on our team cuz we drafted him boggles my mind.

Nobody is glorifying, I'm wondering why we need to hold his feet the fire. He can catch with his feet for all I care, the dude catches a lot of what is thrown his way and doesn't make many mistakes. The dude has a high catch rate and makes clutch plays.

At the end of the day he is not good and would not start on any other team in the league. Watch when we cut him next year see if he even gets a deal.

That's fine. But he doesn't make mistakes to "hold his feet to the fire". He's not a super star and he will find another job. This league is chock-full of average players, which is what TWill is.

Ok just remember me when he's jobless. He dropped a huge 2 point conversion last season and dropped a ball that hit him in the chest that got intercepted and returned for a td. Year before that was the dumb dumb stay in bounds play. Thank goodness he won't be starting this season.

Don't worry, I will. He's made a few mistakes in his 4 years...a few. Dez has a laundry list of mistakes. Nobody will be perfect, but TWill doesn't make a lot of mistakes. I don't excuse those mistakes, but I don't excuse any player's mistakes. They need to be corrected. But I'm not looking to get rid of players just because they make a few mistakes because they happen. For example, I'm not cutting Bailey because he's missed game winning field goals, and I'm not cutting Tyron Smith for a stupid holding penalty which allowed the Lions time to come back and win a game.

But, TWill will land on another roster when he is gone.
