Jerry meeting with Dez on Friday

And why would the Cowboys want to guarantee money to a 30+ year old receiver whose production has declined each year?

It seems almost certain that Dez is gone on Friday. That’s a shame because his contract, as written now, makes him easy to trade.

Surely some team out there would give up at least a late round pick and take a flyer on him? Chicago comes to mind. And we need to be sure that he doesn’t land in the division.

Obviously they would only guarantee money if they think his production will pick back up. If they think he is done, they will just release him.

And as for as a trade goes, nobody is going to trade for his contract. Ask yourself this question, "if Dallas doesn't think he is worth $12.5 a year, why would anybody else?"

And if he is done, why do you care if he ends up in the division?

It's not just about 1 year. They have Martin to worry about signing, and others that will need to be signed to extensions, and others to sign in future years. A team can't manage that if they don't plan ahead. It can't be just about dealing with that exact moment in time.

I believe they have plenty of room to do that. @Nightman could probably clarify.

I’m glad you make your thoughts known on a message board and don’t have real input. That’s like saying you’d take LaTavius Murray over Zeke.

One is a top 5 player at their position and the other is top 15-20

Daks salary is a major factor here. I wouldn't want any other starting QB right now either.

If we had Stafford, we wouldn't have a lot of the nice toys we do.

Stafford is obviously the better player, but Dak is the perfect player for us right now. Especially carrying the Romo dead money.

Id hate to think where we would be right now if we had to pay 20+ mill for a QB.

Who the hell ranks stafford a top 5 qb. You should join your boi parcells and retire lol. Now go cry at your romo shrine maybe he'll come back one day.
Love the Dak love.

Buuuutttt... don't lose your cred here and pull a Risen.

Stafford is a top 5 QB. He was scary good last year throwing to the likes of Tate and Jones. He was scary good throwing to Megatron. All that with a not so good Oline and no name RBs.

To sign Martin.
Any extra $ gets carried over to the next year.
They don't need the money to sign Martin. Martin has a cap hit this year of almost 10 mill. They could give him a new contract and reduce his hit considerably. With no help from anywhere.

While I wish you were right, I just dont see it. Why a meeting to give him an extension after all the disrespect by the organization all off-season? Add in the fact that they are looking at so many WRs, I think hes done here.
Leaning that way too

A restructure wouldn't surprise me one bit. "Jerry, the fan" will likely see to it that he stays. Would I like it? Nope!
No the Cowboys don't want to extend DEZ, if they got rid of him next year it would only cost the Cowboys 4 million. You restructure that contract and the Cowboys are on the hook for years to come.

Hooookay.

Have you ever watched Stafford play?

You know, it's okay to be a full-fledged fan of Dak and admit there are guys better. Saying Stafford is better (which I think any sane person would admit) is not an indictment of Prescott.
I have. And I wouldn't give up a 2nd year QB who won Rookie of the year

I admit I might have gotten a little overzealous. I always put Stafford right around the number 10 spot in best QBs. Right now with all the experience Stafford is the better QB.

Is this meeting a way for Jerry to attempt keeping things friendly while also releasing Dez. Dez's agent won't be in the room? Dez does his own math now?

I honestly think hes gonna be here for a couple more years, because I expect him to bet on himself he will take a contract with performance incentives and I expect he has a good year.

If he takes such a contract and doesnt do well it will not sit with him making less money and underperforming.

If that is the case this will be his last year.
In either case we needed to upgrade our wr core and add some youth.

Of course I wouldnt be shocked if he was released or traded. Those saying no one wants him at his current price arent watching the receiver market imo.

It could very well be I am over thinking this and hes gone tomorrow though lol.

The flip side to your argument though is if the Cowboys have disrespected him already, why not just call him and tell him he's cut?

Why the meeting to do that?

Because it's "Papa Jerry". Who gets more emotionally invested in his players (and certain coaches) than Jerry Jones?

As I recall, didn't this same type of "meeting" happen when TO got the boot?

Where was Papa Jerry when the Cowboys were letting Bryant flip in the wind?

What time is this meeting today, considering Dez' alarm clock challenges?
