Most people who chose to smoke weed are smart enough to work where they dont test. Most places dont overall. So if u cant get in any other trouble otherwise, and dont have to accept any stink eye judgment from anyone otherwise, then youd have to be an idiot to out yourself in a position where u have to worry about being in trouble with some idiot boss or company.

I certainly dont have anyone who can give me an inch of crap for smoking and as a successfull adult I wouldnt take it, from anyone!

"For those who think life isnt fair, cause I blow my smoke in the air, Il roll a fat one for your sorrows"

I smoke weed for a long time once the County told us they would be drug testing. I made a choice of what was really important

As it was written

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

I do. Been with the County for 31 years and smoking weed in the end was not a big deal, certainly not worth giving up a good job with good benefits. Really what kind of man would I be if I allowed a substance to make my choice for me?

They also realize they are given more latitude to screw up with the cowboys (which is not always a good message to your new players) considering 3 strike rule with the league and Jerry's leniency.

you seriously think the number of players that smoke pot is any where in the same universe as those suspended.
only gregory and gordon are so stupid and with so little self-control that he gets caught like that.

I wish Randy could stay off the weed.
On the other hand the NFL policy on pot is very dated.

As I said I consider it a strength at times and a weakness at others. Jerry did not give up on Irving he could have on the other hand he has cut loose others like Ratliff and McClain. I think Jerry will give loyalty and also expects a measure of loyalty
I agree with what you said. The way the league handles all these punishments is a joke to start with. Jerry does expect loyalty but some players take advantage of his loyalties over and over (you named a few examples). Eventually you have to cut bait or your just enabling the player to keep making the same mistake while setting a bad example for players who might consider walking down that dark alley knowing uncle JJ has the bail $$ waiting.
Sometimes tough love does work as an example for the rest of the players to stay on the right track.

you can show tough love but not throw away the asset.
just give him a job that just pays ok (60k?)
to players, that is crap pay.

No I think there are a ton of players who smoke under the radar. What I'm saying is, Jerry seems to keep the "stupid" (as you call them) or potentially "stupid" players much longer than other teams.

let me rephrase it for you:
you prefer 100% certainty of getting nothing for the spent 2nd round pick instead of keeping an unknown % chance of getting something from the pick.
that is what you are advocating.

Actually-- it does cost the team something to wait around hoping he comes around:

It costs us credibility. How can the coaches preach "right kind of guy" philosophy, work ethic, improving yourself every single day, accountability etc... when they then turn around and hang onto a guy just b/c he is talented and they invested a high pick on him?

They have given him multiple chances-- and he has chosen himself over the team consistently.

Time to practice what they preach and hold a guy accountable. Not b/c he smokes pot-- but b/c he lacks commitment, dedication, and passion for the game and his team.

like jimmy johnson shown, those with talent get a long leash.
furthermore, he does not practice with the players.
and he serves as a great example of earning $60k/year instead of $10M/yr if you are stupid.
finally, may be you have realize how stupid your previous objections were.

Did you get millions up front? What about mental problems like Gregory has? Look everybody is different and what makes sense to some is different to others.
