Cowboys owner Jerry Jones when asked on @1053thefan if he thinks former Cowboys TE Jason Witten could one day be an NFL coach: "Yes. Without hesitation. Yes. He has something that you can't draw up. He reminds me a lot of our other tight end who is head coach up there in Detroit right now (Dan Campbell).

"Jason is very sophisticated when it comes to understanding football and all the nuances. But more important than anything, he really does understand the physical and the mentality of being physical and that part of it. Without a question, he could become (an NFL coach). He has extraordinary work ethic. ... He can be a top coach."

Guess the 1053TheFan hosts are back to tossing softball questions at Jerry Jones again.

I cannot blame them. Job security ain't no joke.

Jerry's plan:

Witten can come coach these next 3 years of dumpster fire we are going to have with Dak's salary cap eating contract.
During those 3 years - I will draft the person with the fastest 40 at each position. I don't care about football skills, I just want speed, speed baby and it'll play....has to!
Then once I've loaded up on the fastest team in the NFL and Dak's deal is up - I can fire Witten and he can take the fall for the horrible 3 years we've had.
I'll call up coach Belichick - at the spry age of 75 to coach up the fastest team in the NFL. It's a can't lose situation.

This team will ride me off into the sunset as we celebrate our 6 Super Bowl.

Just win baby!

LOL this would be comic gold if Witten was the hire. I'm not saying he can't be a HC in the NFL but it would be typical of Jerry to hire a guy with zero experience at the NFL level because he's an ex-cowboy. Let's go out and get a HS coach and beat everyone to the punch.
It wouldn't be bad.

Jason Witten and Chuck Norris walked into a bar and the bar instantly exploded because that much awesome cannot possibly be contained.

It would be horrible. I love me some Jason Witten, but the guy needs to be part of an NFL coaching staff for a bit before getting that opportunity. He probably needs the Kellen Moore treatment of being an OC under an offensive HC first. I know he played in the league for a long time, but hes nearly a decade away from the game now and isnt working with overly complex offensive systems at the HS level.

Witten doesn't have that leadership quality that Campbell has
Maybe, that’s difficult to know, but I don’t see how one could ever remind someone of the other based on how they conduct themselves publicly.

Not a slight to either, but I see no similarities…really at all lol.

He hires a new guy you complain. He hires someone with experience you call it a "retread". No one will ever be happy.

The prophecy will be fulfilled soon. How old are Romo’s kids we want to start the internship now?

Witten’s sons are in 12th and 10th grade…I imagine he’ll coach high school until his youngest has graduated. ATP I see him giving college coaching a try. If he has success there, he may have a quick ascent to the pros. Probably 8-10 years away from being an option.

Witten certainly doesnt have the over the top personality Campbell does, but I don't see any reason to think that Witten doesnt have leadership qualities. Just one mans opinion but that would be one of the last things I would worry about for Witten.
What would be the first thing?

I'd also like to point out that he learned how to play tight end in the NFL from Dan Campbell. He was coached by Parcells. He's got a good record as a HS coach. I think he'd make a good coordinator to start with. I'd love to see him operate on our coaching staff. Not saying as a HC yet, but I'd be curious to watch him develop, and then takeover when he's ready.

Campbell was the crazy eyed wild card to Witten's clean cut, by the book country boy. They are both tough, and both played TE and I think that's about where the comparisons end. I'd be pissed if Jerrah hired Jason without having proven himself at the collegiate level, at the very least as an OC, but that would be a JJ kind of move.
