Oh good. Jerry will saddle the next HC with one of his projects. No knock on Witten, but Jerry has required all his coaches to keep a coach in waiting on their roster, resulting in the wasted Garrett decade. How about select the HC and let them choose the whole staff.

Jerry is jealous of what's going on up in Detroit and wants his own Dan Campbell 2.0. The last 10 months has let the whole world know how clueless he is

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones when asked on @1053thefan if he thinks former Cowboys TE Jason Witten could one day be an NFL coach: "Yes. Without hesitation. Yes. He has something that you can't draw up. He reminds me a lot of our other tight end who is head coach up there in Detroit right now (Dan Campbell).

"Jason is very sophisticated when it comes to understanding football and all the nuances. But more important than anything, he really does understand the physical and the mentality of being physical and that part of it. Without a question, he could become (an NFL coach). He has extraordinary work ethic. ... He can be a top coach."

Why does anyone care what Jerry thinks at this point???

He hires a new guy you complain. He hires someone with experience you call it a "retread". No one will ever be happy.
Can't speak for every fan here but I think the majority of people would like to see criteria such as these....

A younger HC ( not a relic) preferably offensive minded.

Proven track record in a league higher than High School.

Most importantly, not a person with a prior personal relationship with Jerry because it will bring on the "puppet" allegations and undermine his authority

Really not crazy criteria there and although a gruff boisterous attitude is always the sexy pick, just look at calm reserved Andy Reid and his sucess. He's known as a calm leader and teacher of the game......when there's enough Dawgs on a team they don't need the HC to be one

Right, so starting him at HC isn't good. But, I think bringing him in for some time as a position coach under the right hc like Vrabel or Ben Johnson can be good. I think Witten would be more of a fan of a physical offense given how he played.

I have to defer to the people who have knowledge of his current coaching job because I have no idea on how he is there. It's funny because there may actually prefer to see Witten here instead of Coach Prime.

Not knowing anything about Witten I would defer to ANY sucessful college coach over him merely based on experience.

I just like coaches who are patient and pay their dues because they recognize they need experience and are willing to do it the right way.

Witten is the perfect coach either him or Moore for what this FO likes to do.

wonder what leftover coach is gonna be pushed on Witten or Moore? Al Harris? Zimmer? they always pull this crap. HC never gets a clean slate here to hire everyone they want.

Oh no doubt, and I also will say I have no problem with Deion as a HC here. I love what he's done at Colorado, and he did a good job at Jackson State. I like the culture he's brought to Colorado. If Jerry hired him, I would have 0 issues with it.

The very best NFL coaches, including those that have won multiple Super Bowls, like Jimmy Johnson, Bill Belichick or Andy Reid, never played in the NFL. It's true that some current and former coaches were NFL players, but if I were building a team I'd want the more quiet, studious types that both understand the Xs and Os but also have an ability to have rapport with players.

I'm open to alot of new HCs but like someone pointed out, when Prime finds one of our players just " going through the motions" it's not as easy to get rid of him like he does in college, lol

No doubt, but I think he will probably be able to put his foot in their tail hole in a way that hasn't happened since Parcells was here. I think players would fear Deion.

And even though he can't immediately deport a player, he can bench or shop them around

I agree that the players know he doesn't tolerate soft lazy players.....he might even attract better, more serious free agents here.

If Jerry wanted Witten in the long run I would try to find an older HC who could help mentor Witten for a couple years before passing the torch.
Bingo!!!!!! You guys can't see where Jerry is going with this? This has Belichick written all over it. Jerry will sell Belichick on hiring Jason and mentoring him until he retires 2-3 years.

BTW....this is similar to how Garrettt was hired

The only reason I'm discussing prime is because he's been in the current conversation. I honestly have no dog in this fight.

I can't comment on Witt because I have no first hand knowledge of his HS coaching style, lol.....but we have all seen Primage jettison players that are more interested in NIL money than in winning games.

Again, I have no favorite candidate to be hired but I fully expect to say "WTH" after Jerry makes a ridiculous choice for HC here.

And BTW, no coach would openly lobby for a new coaching gig while they are trying to lead their team to a playoff spot....it just doesn't happen
