Jerry on Zeke (after the draft): “No, no, not at all. That ship hasn’t sailed yet. We haven’t made a decision."

Oh buddy...........sad to hear you say that. If zeke comes back they will feature him.

I would hope they wouldn't feature him, and, from that standpoint, I can see why you'd take Jones. It'd remove the temptation from the coaches to use a back like Zeke in anything more than short yardage.

I see it a bit different, I see Schoonmacher playing a role similar to Witten in the run game. Essentially, I think we will see a lot of I-formations and maybe an occasional T-formation that McCarthy used in Green Bay. In that sense, I think Schoonmacher AND Luepke would likely be on the field at the same time.
Luepke over Ferguson? I dont see it.

Schoonmaker will also line up in the backfield and block like a FB. Its one of the reasons they loved him. Not sure I see a FB sticking because of that. But MM did love his big FB's.
True, but I don't see Schoonmaker being a short-yardage option. I wouldn't mind having Luepke in there to give us the option of a dive or running outside with one of our speedy backs on short-yardage plays. Of course, I'd probably copy Philly's QB sneak play, except maybe run it with someone other than Dak, although he can handle it but I don't like the risk of injury. The play seems to be fairly unstoppable in short-yardage situations the way that it is ran.

Frankly, I think every team should run a version of it until a) the league bans it or b) teams find a way to stop it.

And do you really think the delusional Zeke will come cheap and accept a 5 carry role?

I don't know on the FB sticking, either, because we certainly haven't had one do it in a while. Luepke was the top FB in this class, I believe, and does show some versatility. I just don't know if we value what the position brings over running two tight ends or even bringing an extra lineman in as a blocker.

I'd give him a cheap contract. Doesn't seem like anyone is breaking his door down. He may have lost a step but he's still good for that short-yardage role.

He's best at keeping Dak comfortable in the pocket.

Now, since everyone is stretching, I'll join the fun. The new guys miss a few blocks, Dak gets happy feet. Uh-oh.
But we know Zeke is a good blocker. He fits the locker room perfectly, has a great attitude (and 800 yards is not bottom of the barrel).

It's the $$$$ signs that didn't fit the production. Overpaid. Yes.
So Booger and Zeke need to find a number that works. And from there Booger gives his old, "It's my team and I'll do what I want. And if you don't like buy the team and do what you want" speech.

That might be the biggest splash Booger could make this year. So I don't put it passed him.

I thought that way BEFORE the draft.

I've seen nothing since to change my mind.

He would take up a valuable roster spot and is the definition of progress stopper.
Yah I know it. Im sure many will be happy including some of the help. But Ill be done.

That would be it for me. Until Jerry is gone Ill say.
Jones expressed similar musings about Romo during the 2017 offseason (paying him that astronomical salary to be a backup), and Dez Bryant (after Jones' son Stephen literally said after the 2017 season: "Dez is gone if he doesn't agree to a substantial paycut.").
