Jerry says he's not drafting a qb early in next years draft

It shouldn't take much to find see a QB in rounds 2-4. Andy Dalton? Kaepernick? Foles? Cousins? And that's just off the top of my head from recent years.
But I know one way to not find a QB, and that is to not try. We've only drafted 2 in nearly 20 years - Quincy and Stephen McGee. Smart teams would at least use a mid to late rounder on a QB every 2-3 years, unless they are totally set.

Don't forget Russell Wilson in the 3rd round.

Here's what Jerry said about drafting a QB early:

“It’s way too early to do that with the way things are today with my expectations of Tony’s career -- which I think will be several years to come,” Jones said. “It’s too early to be drafting a highly ranked or costly quarterback.”

I know there is some confusion whether he said it's too early to start talking about drafting a QB early or whether it's too early to draft a QB in the first few rounds.

Thinks Tony will be back in time for OTA's and says it's too early to invest a high draft pick in a qb. Said he's gone through this before with Aikman so he's experienced and He thinks Romo still has a long career ahead of him.

This is why Jerry is the worst GM in the league. If we don't start thinking about our qb of the future now, were going to go through another Quincy carter, Anthony wright, chad Hutchinson scenario. He really thinks romo has a "long" career ahead of him. I think it's pretty obvious that Tony's best playing days are behind him. He only has a handful of seasons left. 3 or 4 I would say. We need to be grooming a qb behind him.

This comment by Jerry really irked me. Did he learn nothing from the seasons after aikman retired?

Our other needs don't matter as much bc one player won't put us over the top. If a top 4 qb is available in the first or second, we better pull the trigger.

Philly didnt need a qb either. But they drafted kolb and foles. They got a first rounder for kolb and foles will be the reason they make the playoffs and Dallas will be on vacation.

They didn't need a QB? Since when?

Team has too many needs, especially on defense, to use a high round pick on a QB. They should look look in the later rounds and next year should take a closer look for a replacement.

Seriously guys...trusting Jerry to find a replacement isn't wise. Hope you're enjoying Romo's last few years because if you think it's bad now just wait.

Vick beat out kolb. Vick beat out foles. They had 2 qb's. Point is, Jerry shouldn't be scared to draft a qb even if we already have a good one. Romo only has 3 to 4 good years left and that's being generous. Remember what happened after aikman? Yeah, I don't wanna go through it again. This is paramount to the teams long term success and Jerry just blows it off likes its no big deal. We've drafted 2 qb's in 20 years. Time to take a chance on one in the second or third.

A) You shouldn't listen to anything this organization says about the draft.

B) We've drafted well the last 3 years.

C) Why would we be looking to use a high draft pick on QB?

D) People complaining just to complain. It's very annoying.

Drafting a QB in the first three rounds would be a mistake unless a very good prospect drops. If you don't rebuild your front 7 on defense and continue to rebuild your OL, it won't matter who your QB is.

One must also remember that unless your drafted QB becomes a starter in the first 3 years, you probably just developed him for another team because he will leave in free agency. Ideally, you draft a rookie QB who learns and backs up your starter for 1-2 years before taking over. Tony will be ready for training camp; he is going to be our QB for 3-4 more years at least.

Give Jerry a little credit too...only an idiot would come out and talk about drafting a QB...better to have teams believe you are not in the market so they don't jump in front of you should a good prospect appear to be dropping to you.

Many of these "franchise" QBs are a result of a proven system.

Would Wilson or Kaepernick be carrying those teams without a strong OL, running game and defense?

Same goes with Cam...loser playing superman, winning with running game and defense.

It is absolutely the best move for the near and long term to wait at least a year to draft a QB. Build up the team around a QB, take the cap hell season and be ready to win with a solid offense, defense and a cheap QB.

I'm no JJ's fan but I wish people would stop twisting his words to fit their agenda. JJ does just fine on his own to screw the team up so no need to make up a **** to bash him

Cam is a loser? I'd take Cam every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

And you realize the Run game is strong in large part BECAUSE those qbs you listed can run the ball which takes a linebacker out of the run defense on a lot of downs.

Uhmm...Ravens with Dilfer, TB with Johnson, Seattle now, SF now...

OK, those are 2 of the exceptions I talked about. You can throw the 85 Bears in there, too. Seattle and SF haven't won anything recently, unless I am mistaken.

Reading what Jerry said sorry I agree. We just signed Romo to a 6 year deal Dallas is not going to use a high draft pick to get a QB. He did not rule out getting a QB later in the draft but it would makes little sense to turn around use a top pick on QB.
