With him back to playing golf it appears he's seriously thinking about retirement.
That's a reach. He tried out for one tournament. What else is there to do this time of the year besides go fishing? You are reading a little into it.

The Texans giving away a second round pick just to have Cleveland take Osweiler off their hands greatly reduces the chances of them trading for Romo.
On the other hand, trading Brock cleared up a ton of salary cap space that could be used on Romo so that greatly increases the chances of them trading for Romo.

He claimed a few years ago he was giving up golf to avoid putting a strain on his back. I don't recall any reports of him playing golf last year. With him out of a starting job, his football career in limbo and reports he's considering retirement to go into broadcasting that's enough of a reason to speculate that retirement is an option. I'm not sure he would be playing golf right now if things didn't go down the way they did last season.

So far all of the so called reports by the media have not come true and the Cowboys have done exactly what Jerry has said they would do.

It greatly increases the chances they'll sign him if he's released. If they were going to trade for Romo you think it would've coincided with the release of Osweiler. I believe the Texans already know they don't need to trade for Romo to get him. The Texans are Romo's best option for success.

All the reports say the Texans and Broncos aren't interested in trading for Romo and so far they have been true.

This is the first tournament he's tried out for in several years. There is been no talk of him playing golf in several years until this tournament. All of a sudden he's back to playing golf again which is a good reason for speculation with his football career being in limbo. I don't believe he would have been playing in this tournament if he was still the starting QB of the Cowboys and he knew for certain he would be playing football in 2017.

Why? I would think there is a better chance of that possible trade happening during the draft then the middle of March.

If anything, it clears room if/when he's released.
But I agree with the poster that said Houston (and Denver for that matter) would be far more hesitant to part with a pick since they already gave up their 2nd rounder.

The Texans are currently stuck at QB so if they were to lose out on Romo on draft day due to several teams being in a wheeling and dealing mood for a QB they may have to resort to bringing in Jay Cutler who'll frustrate them as much as the QBs they've had. The Texans are the best fit for Romo they're just down the street from Dallas and Romo will want to play there. They don't want to give up anything for him because they just gave away a second round pick to Cleveland. Plus Romo carries a huge injury risk and the Texans know they can sign him once he's released. They have the cap space but they don't want to give up a premium draft pick which is what it's going to take to trade for Romo.

Just be glad Dallas isn't trying to make a blockbuster deal for a QB to replace Romo this year.

QB stocks would be soaring and Dallas might be giving up the bank for a bust potential QB deal...or being hot to sign Manziel rightnow.

Thank the Football Gods for Dak!
And that's after we go through years and many QB's before we did the trade up for the next Ryan Leaf.

A couple of questions with Houston are
1) why was Osweiller better in Denver..only to regress in Houston?
2) is Coach Obrien really the massive awesome person that people say he is?

Osweiler didn't do well in Houston because he was on a different team and was a poor fit. Plus the amount of money he was paid put a lot of pressure on him and he folded under it. He did well in Denver because they drafted and developed him. He spent a few seasons there learning before he got his opportunity.

Broncos and Texans want Romo if #1 they don't have to give up anything for him #2 they don't have to give him any guaranteed money and #3 means that they don't want him that bad.

When has he ever gotten hurt in an offseason workout?

Seriously.. they were so worried about him getting hurt, they had him practicing last year and working out and even had him play a game.. suddenly the 'rigors' of the OTAs are why they can't risk him out there..

It is probably already a known factor what QB needy teams feel about this draft class. None of them are going to come in and start right away.

Romo would be a one or two year at best rented gun. That is a big reason why nobody is falling all over themselves to trade for him or his baggage.

So was Manning with the deteriorating neck injury.. you play for the SB every year if your own the cusp.. you don't sit around and think a third round pick that may develop is more important than that potential SB you can possibly get when the only piece you really have missing is a legit QB..

He was intelligent enough to win a NFC championship. You don't see Romo doing that.

Is Jim Harbaugh coaching him now and does he have that light's out defense? Because Kaep didn't take SF to the SB last year...

If his back was hurting, why would he be playing? :)

And he never GAVE UP golf, he cut golf down. His boy Spieth mentioned that in 2015 they still played, but not as competitively since Romo reduced his golfing and other sports like soccer and basketball to focus on football in the off-season.

"The good news is he doesn’t swallow his pride and take a lot of strokes. He likes to play maybe like 2 or 3 a side, which means I’m usually on the winning end of that one."
