I think he is trying to justify extending him.
extending dak is the easy path, it would be more work to find another QB, and jones boys dont want to ride out this contract and dump him.
I think they think they have to stay with dak to prove they were right to keep him over romo back in 2016, and to then resign him to the 40 mil a year deal.
Dumping him would say they were wrong, and they cant do that.
