Yep, nice to be able to say something positive bout Jerry.Well done, Jerry.
Listening to the interview and hearing the logistics of why today vs a different day earlier this season, or why make the announcement now instead of at the beginning of the season since the Aikman game was locked in... to me it makes even more sense that the World Series played a hand in shifting the opinion and position of this decision. You always said it was going to happen. Why now? What has transpired? You guys met before the Chargers game. Why now?
Well first of all. I really thought it was time and I wanted to do it this year. As you know, we do not have a set timeframe of when to do the Ring of Honor thing. And so, frankly, it just felt right. Certainly, there was some, a little awkwardness that was happening for not doing it that I guess I anticipated but I really didn't anticipate. And so I wouldn't have wanted that to linger any longer at all.
We have a deal in the Hall of Fame that even if someone goes and tries to get in, and maybe is nominated fifteen times, but when you are in, you're in.

"Awkwardness" = accumulated pressure. What type of accumulated pressure exactly is a good question. Then the classic deflection followed.
Actually the Dec 30 game is a Sat game on ESPN/ABC, so I guess we will have Buck/Aikman for the call. Maybe thats not an coincidence. Perhaps they wanted Aikman doing that game so he could be there and be a part of things too.Well, Thursday's game is on CBS, so I guess they wanted to have it on FOX.
It's gotta be Aikman for that call. All the other players from that era that don't have to work that day should be there.Actually the Dec 30 game is a Sat game on ESPN/ABC, so I guess we will have Buck/Aikman for the call. Maybe thats not an coincidence. Perhaps they wanted Aikman doing that game so he could be there and be a part of things too.
It's getting harder to listen to Jerry talk. He seems to be struggling to remember the words he's looking for.
Agreed but that set of circumstances apply only to this year. As Jones admitted, the 'Ring of Honor thing' has no timetable. He could have done it at any time, during any year, under similar circumstances, for decades. Crazy.Listening to the interview and hearing the logistics of why today vs a different day earlier this season, or why make the announcement now instead of at the beginning of the season since the Aikman game was locked in... to me it makes even more sense that the World Series played a hand in shifting the opinion and position of this decision.
If that's what it took to get the job done after 30 years.. then good for all involved. Jimmy has long earned this and this really is closure for both hopefully.
Jerry Jones: Just remember Jimmy... You was always "in" old friend.Video marks: 12:27 - 12:56
Hopefully, Jones will NEVER invoke Tex Schramm's name again. Ever. All those times he used Schramm's words of advice to explain taking no action, only to come to a conclusion--based on what Schramm had allegedly said--that should have initiated action long ago. Just... no words...
Well done, Jerry.
Yeah I'm sure Emmitt and Mike will be there too!Actually the Dec 30 game is a Sat game on ESPN/ABC, so I guess we will have Buck/Aikman for the call. Maybe thats not an coincidence. Perhaps they wanted Aikman doing that game so he could be there and be a part of things too.
