Sure he does.
Contracts are broken by either party...most often and regularly by the team, but sometimes by the player:
  1. Teams cut players under contract all the time
  2. Players under contract retire
You for sure know this already
He's not writing a check to retire. He'll ride the pine and count his millions.

I will guarantee that Dak doesn't have much of/if any "softmore slump".

You saw him get better and learn "in game" ... "next game" last year. Exponential growth. That's rare.

This type of guy gets better... he doesn't regress much.

I'm betting "his process" is faster than Garrets "process".

I think he'll regress a bit, but that's OK. Quarterbacks typically do.

Tougher schedule, a potentially lesser offensive line, and a now a book on how to play against him.

One of the main problems with Keeping Romo as the backup (assuming he would even agree to this in the first place) is the media attention it would bring, especially if Dak hits a sophomore slump.

First game Dak loses, the media will start asking "should the Cowboys start Romo"? Then what happens when Dak loses a second game, a third game, what if there is several loses in a row? If this team lose 3 games in a row with a healthy Romo standing on the sideline, the media storm would be unbearable. Every TV talking head in the nation, every sports show, every radio show, every internet blog, ect.....would all be asking "should Romo be inserted back into the lineup"?

Next step is the media starts asking the players if the team should go back to Romo, what do you think Witten would say?

We'll see. There have been dozens of flash-in-the-pan quarterbacks before. He seems to have the work ethic to push through. It's a good thing he isn't the partier like Zeke because QBs can't afford that.

Andrew Luck is having his struggles. Peyton Manning struggled early, as did just about every QB that ever played. Dak won't be his full self for a good while yet.

Of course. Romo is clearly the best QB on this team right now. He knows it, Dak knows it, the media knows it, the coaches know it.

But that's not the point. The team is looking to the future more than this season, and has made a decision in that regard. No longer do they want to be at the mercy of Romo's back, which is understandable.

However, if Dak is struggling badly, it would be nice to have Romo take the reins and see what he could do to right the ship. Wouldn't it?

Dak has 3-4 years to get his game sharpened for a long stretch of his prime years. There is no rush or panic there with Romo around.

I don't see it.

Romo is an old QB.
Romo has only played 4-5? games over last two seasons?
That's doesn't currently make him the best QB.
