I've assumed that Jerry has always wanted to field a winner.

Not because he wanted a stadium, but because Jerry just flat wanted to win.

Certainly it makes sense that Jerry knew that having a winner would improve Jerry's chances of building the statement stadium, but I've assumed that Jerry hired Parcells because Jerry truly came to believe that he needed someone like Parcells to help turn the team around.

I'd hate to think that Jerry cared more about building a stadium than he cared about winning. But maybe I'm being niave.
He does, but for a time he thought it was easy to do so. Just be the Dallas Cowboys, flash money at players, and real in the big ones.

It was a party, not a direction. Parcells returned direction to the Cowboys and Jerry in particular.

He cares about the brand of the Dallas Cowboys. That includes winning, and it includes the stadium.

Jerry's thoroughly committed to putting a winner on the field. We all know that, but his responsibility to the team extends beyond his GM role, obviously.

I don't think it was bad. He was definitely just razzin Parcells, the same way I do my buddies, or when I talk about my buddies when we're all drinkin.

He loves Romo - good

He has/had a good relationship with Parcells - good

He hired Parcells to get the stadium - lil sketch, but who cares why really. The team needed a coach like Parcells and Jerry got one.

He couldn't get Tebow on the field - great. i love hearing that he doesn't have control over on field decisions.

Jerry began to dream about Cowboys Stadium long before he hired Bill Parcells. It wasn't just an overnight decision to create this football Taj Mahal. He has always wanted a Super Bowl for the DFW area and was told long ago that Texas Stadium was not a good venue.

As he was asking around and researching ideas he was told over and over and over again that getting the stadium meant he had to put a winner on the field. The biggest roadblock to that was Jerry's own poor coaching hire decisions.

The media has long considered Switzer, Gailey and Campo as nothing more than Jerry yes men. In other words enablers. When Jerry Jones went after Bill Parcells that perception changed and suddenly doors that had been closed to Jerry's stadium dreams began to open.

Suddenly there were financing discussions. Especially once a miracle happened and the 2003 Cowboys were 10-6. Now the salesmanship of the idea was at full throttle.

So looking back, at closed doors suddenly opened it is natural that Jerry would feel that was one of the things holding him back, his own proclivity towards yes men.

Parcells was not that, and believe it or not, Wade isn't either. I've been told that he stands up to Jerry more than even Parcells did. Or rather I guess that he is more demanding. It doesn't look like it because he is so gracious. Like when we got Paul Pasqualoni back. Wade truly appreciated that Jerry didn't waste any time. That makes him look soft in comparison to the gruff, I don't give a damn about anything Parcells. In truth, Wade sets some high standards.

Hoooooah! And someone who really understands management and the role that Jerry actually plays...

It was not alone upon the Cowboys' team that party and even drugs had to be removed. That transition went NFL wide and is still in direction, inclusive of steroids, etc. There is a 'zero tolerance' in effect concerning image and repurcusions as such now. That was transitionary and not limited to Cowboy Country.

I'm glad to hear this. I'm probably the only person on this entire board who likes Wade.

Myself. I have alot of respect for Wade and have never seen a coach catch the hell from fans as he does. You would think Wade had this team playing to a 5-11 and fact is this team has played the best ball they have in years under Wade.

I like Wade, and think he is an underrated coach. But I do wish he didn't say a lot of the things he says (comparing our 2007 bye week to a playoff win, for example) and I wish he came accross as more of an authority figure instead of a happy go lucky guy.

Hey, whoa!...

Okay Hos, so is this a recent revelation that Wade stands up to Jerry more than people think? I know you were never a fan of Tommy Boy.

I do think this is one thing Wade is underrated at -- working with people, including and especially Jerry. It's always seemed to me he understands that he can get what he wants if he shows Jerry the proper respect in public and persuades him what the team needs in private. It's a lot like the way he gets his players to play for him.

Far from it. It's hard not to respect some of the things Wade's done in Dallas.

My guess is that Jerry listens to Wade more than ever, now.

I do wonder if Jerry was listening as much to Wade back in the Pacman, Tank, and TO days.

Surely as last season wore on, Wade earned extra credibility.

Wade's street cred with jerry should be off the charts yo.

Igor, Brooking, jenkins, kitna, defensive playcalling, junior siavii, spencer, decamillis, two nfc east titles and a playoff win.

Wade could probably get away with wearing a top hat and walking with a cane he must be such a pimp around the ranch.

I just want to know if Jerry was drunk when he conducted pre-draft interviews with Quincy because he was as dumb as a rock.

Just for you Jerry

Football Owners
have always been a real close family
but lately some of my kin folks
have disowned a few others and me
i guess its because
i kinda changed my direction
i guess i went and broke the family tradition

they get on me wanna know Jerry
why do you drink?
Jerry why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
over and over
everybody made my prediction
so if i get stoned
I'm just carryin'
on an old family tradition

I am very proud
of my daddys name
although his kinda football
and mine ain't exactly the same
stop and think it over
put yourself in my position
if i get stoned and sing all night long
it's a family tradition

Don't ask me Jerry
why do you drink?
(Jerry) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
If I'm down in a Honky-Tonk
Some ol' slicks tryin to give me corrections
I'll say leave me alone
I'm singin all night long
it's a family tradition

Lordy, I have loved some ladies
and I have loved Jim Beam
and they both tried to kill me
in 2003
when that doctor asked me
Son how did you get in this condition
I said hey sawbones I'm just carryin on
an old family tradition

So don't ask me Jerry
why do you drink?
Jerry why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs you wrote?
Stop and think it over
Try and put yourself in my unique position
If I get stoned and sing all night long
It's a family tradition!

Given those factors Hos, why is it that you suggest while you support Wade, he's not really your first choice or a coach you seem very fond of?

Just curious.....thx
