Jerry's post-stadium spending

To say we know nothing about the financials is just being ignorant. .

Who said you know nothing? I said you do not know the financials which means all of them. And because you do not know all of them, it is talking from a position of ignorance. Just like you can't talk about my financials just because you can look up my property value on DCAD and my salary. To discuss someone's cash flow (which appears to be what you want to do) without the complete financial picture is impossible. Sure, you can pontificate about debt payments all you want, but you don't know what the cash flow statements show so it's pointless.

What's silly is assuming NFL teams have infinite amounts of cash to burn.

Who said they do?

No one assumes that. But discussing whether Jerry is making personnel decisions based on debt payments without any cash flow information is rank speculation. On top of that, it is pointless unless you think there is some discernible effect on the team. That is, unless you think there is someone that we couldn't afford, needed, and wanted. If there is, then name them and have that discussion.

Football is a business and I hardly think it's out of place to have a thread to discuss that aspect of it.

I don't see anyone blasting Jerry or making dogmatic conclusions. We are all wondering aloud and I'm glad I started the thread because I've learned some things.

I have no bone to pick if you just wanted to discuss the business of football and what goes into expenses of a team, etc.

But I do have a bone to pick if our fans are going to start whining about how we didn't sign some player (say, Atogwe or someone) because Jerry spent too much on the stadium. Or acting chicken little because we are broke. The initial post--including the "yet" part--and some of the comments (as well as historical evidence of this topic) suggested to me that some people were heading that way. And that's an obnoxious topic that bleeds over to other discussions.

How gracious of you to castigate us for what we might possibly post at some point in the thread's future. You stopped our criminal thinking, before it even happened. Prescience of the future is your gift.

Since I haven't heard one single poster whining about anything...except you....maybe you should exit stage right.

Excuse me if I don't buy the argument that not knowing all the facts means you can't draw assumptions from what we do know.

I'm not saying I have a problem with it (yet) but I've wondered about Jones' wallet since the stadium has been built.

The stadium went considerably over budget, and whereas the stadium has been a huge hit in many respects, it arrived at the same time as an economic downturn.

I wonder if Jerry is as eager to spend money as we all have believed for so long.

Maybe he foresees a new cap coming into place and wants to manage that. If so I applaud his frugality.

Thoughts?

The owners do not know where the cap will be at. The Cowboys were handcuffed by the final eight rule. Jerry Jones played it right. I will never question Jones when it come to spending money on the Cowboys.

I think it's absolutely affected his decision making and until he gets his big naming rights deal done, cash flow is a concern.

I'm not saying he's going bankrupt any time soon (I have no idea what his financials look like), but those debt payments are large. And I can't imagine any business taking on that amount of debt and not having it be a major concern.
\

that is exactly what it looks like to me. I think he is hurting with the stadium overruns, advertising down, no naming rights etc............

I apologize you are correct. What I should have stated is that the Dallas Cowboys have the highest payroll going into this year (2010). So the OP worries aren’t warranted.

saying that we can draw conclusions despite not knowing many of the facts is not smart. We probably DON'T know a lot more then we know as regards Jerrruh and his financial situation. What is clear is that the Boys have one of the highest payrolls in the league despite letting both Hamlin and Flozel go. One conclusion could be that Jerruh is just being prudent with all the unknowns as regards the CBA. And both moves appear to have been well thought out and looking like in the longrun will be good moves. From a FOOTBALL point of view.

Look @ the money Jerry raked in from PSL sales.....he is doing just fine. :laugh2:

Club seats = $100K - 16K first three decks goal line to goal line
Remained seats = $5K - 2K

Club seat ticket price = $320/game IIRC
"Cheap" seats = $99 - 59 IIRC

I would imagine the stadium is self funding of the PSLs alone. Add in licensing revenue and ticket sales revenue, etc and I'm SURE Jerry is just fine.

I haven't seen any definitive #'s on 2010, on a team-by-team basis. For us, I'd assume that the spending would have had to gone up from 2009 due to Roy 11's balloon payment alone.
