I'm sorry, but that's just crazy talk. A young Pro Bowler taken with the sixth overall pick not being worth a 1 in the third year of his career? I can understand the concern over paying him, but that's the price of talent. We could choose not to pay and continue having middling talent like Heath at the position instead.
Well, that all depends on perspective, doesn’t it? Mo Claiborne was picked near that same general area. Is Mo worth that? Of course not.
A player’s relative value varies like the stock market. You want to buy low and sell high, and not vice versa.
Just because the first worked out with Amari doesn’t mean that it will work out with the next guy. Moreover, just because we whiffed on Galloway and Roy Williams doesn’t mean we should never trade for a player.
The higher the compensation, the greater the risk. The Amari trade looks great right now, but how much howling will there be if we end up letting him walk at the end of this year? Or what if he signs a Dez type of contract and gets hurt and can’t play?
These situations are more fluid than you would expect. I’m just sayin’.
