Jets request interview with Richard

I love Richard's fire. But has he really proven anything? What makes him better than Todd Bowles?
Byron Jones, Chido, and the rest of the improved secondary. The LB play and of course the D line. The D carried us for most of our wins this year. Richard is definitely a difference maker here. He changed the entire mindset of the D. Before Richard, Marinelli led a bend and most times break defense that couldn't get the job done late in games.

He can tell them not until after they playoffs. But then they may have moved on to their next interviewee.

And that rule I think is no longer in effect. Used to be they could not request an interview until that team was eliminated. Now it does not seem to be so anymore. But a team can deny the request. But they can't stop them from leaving if a move up. Jerry denied Sparano one time to leave. I think Sean Payton one time too, but the next year he allowed it.

Seems the rules are different now though. However I still believe he can say no until after they playoffs, or once eliminated.

Good point about the playoffs. But apparently there are some qualifiers.

For example, Dallas wins, then Richard can actually interview before the playoff ends, but it would have to be at the teams home-town and the team can dictate the day. They can’t refuse though.

This may really just be a Rooney Rule interview. That being said, I’m sure Richards will get interviews after the season and if they are playing well in the playoffs there will be requests during it.

Probably a Rooney rule interview. The Jets need an offensive minded coach who can develop Darnold.

We had a coach being requested in 2016 and they declined stating they were focused on the playoffs. Let's see if Richard does the same.

If I’m JJ I walk up to Richard and tell him He’ll be the highest paid DC at the end of the season, and he’s the favorite to be the HC when JG goes.

If I were Richard, I would ask JJ, "Really, when's that gonna be?"

Remember, this is the same thing we did with Sean Payton, just before he left to sign with New Orleans.

Guys like McVay and Frank Reich have brought fresh names to the forefront to coach teams. Anthony Lynn is a fresh name and having success in San Diego. This is really the era where the old guard is transitioning into the new.

Don't be a fool, Coach Richard. Stay put in Dallas. You're about to be promoted to D-Coordinator. The Cowboys are a very talented and young team, perfect for you to hone your D-Coordinator skills for the next 4-5 years. Plus, Jerry will pay you handsomely in order to make sure you stay in Big D for the next several years.

The New York Jets or any other team seeking a new head coach are a big mess and very likely with much older rosters. It would be a headache trying to rebuild them when you've got no head coaching, much less a coordinator experience. Stay put for now Coach Richard and help this team win a couple of Super Bowls while gaining coordinator experience and padding up your resume for a much more lucrative future head coach deal whether in Dallas or elsewhere. It's the smart thing to do.

They can have Garrett
I'd throw in $50 to sweeten the offer
I'll chip in on the plane ticket!
 Man!, you guys are insufferable concerning this " issue ",,, as it's abundantly clear to me,that COACH GARRETT has donned his coachingly head coaching football cap to wear on GAMEDAY!
Ebersince the O.T. punt maneuver against Houston,,, Y'all could try to lighten up till after this PLAYOFF run that he's obviously COACHED our TEAM UP in making to the post season,,, ya knowo_O

Jerry can’t do anything if it’s an upward move.

+1.....not sure why many don't understand this. Every NFL assistant coach under contract if off limit to other teams except those with expiring contracts or interviewing for HCing job.

If I were the Jets, I'd hire an offensive coordinator to help develop their young QB, not a defensive coach who they just fired, I'd seriously look at hiring Eric Bieniemy from KC as their next headcoach...

So are the Jets and he can be a HC there. If he is successful in NY, he can write his own ticket the rest of the way. I don't see any way he stays unless we pay him like a HC.

It’s obviously Richards choice, but they can’t deny him if they win the Wildcard and they come to Dallas to interview him that next week. Dallas does have some control in how the interview would be conducted, such as dates, but they can’t deny it.

Our defense is young and set to be good for years to come, if Garrett lays an egg in the playoffs, we have to keep Richard and hire him as our head coach.

I think he also was requested to be interviewed.

Don’t know if I’d want my first NFL HC gig to be with a perennial dumpster-fire like the NY Jets.
