Jim Burt says Canty is going to be a "Star".

Got this from Chocolatelab on the silverstar board......

Steve Dennis from ESPN 103.3 says that he was talking to Jim Burt this morning, and Burt said that behind closed doors, Parcells cannot stop gushing about Chris Canty.

Plus, Burt watched tape of all the practices here and he says his own opinion is that not only is Canty going to be a starter, he's going to be a star. He said he reminds him of Jason Taylor plus forty pounds.

Sounds too good to be true... But Dennis says Burt isn't connected to the team and hasn't gushed about every player here... So there's no reason to believe he's somehow shilling for the team.

Great stuff. When Spears is back this Defense is gonna be mad violent. Spears Ware and Canty and then we have some depth. Burnett has a very good chance of being real good to.

The '05 draft if all goes good could go down as one of the best drafts the Cowboys have had in a real long time.

It will be fun to watch what BP does in the '06 draft. My guess is if a real freak at LB should fall to us in the 1st we take him. I also think BP will be lookin at a top FS in the 1st 3 rounds next year.

Canty, Glover, Spears, Ellis
Burnett, Nguyen, Ware
Henry, Davis, Williams, Newman

All the best players on the field at the same time.

and yes I know NORS, it's never going to happen.
3-4 all the way.

I'm trying to keep the enthusiasm in check, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. I think we have a chance to have a dominant, pressure defense that can compensate for a less than stellar offense and flat-out win games for you.

If our offense can become an effective, grind-it-out, running offense with the ability to hit the occasional deep ball off of play action... look out. If that's the case, we could make some real post-season noise this year... and the next few years would only see us get better as our young players grow into pro bowlers.

OOh, WG..I'd love to hear this 'behind closed doors" gushing of Tuna's.

But I did see the televised pc last week (the one when Spears got hurt), and Canty was "off-stage" to the right laughling loudly..he must have been watching it and just laughing, and Bill interrutpted the pc to bust his chops a bit.

"What do YOU want, Canty?" And he got that sarcastic look he gets before he has to smile in spite of himself.

You could tell it was True Love, WG.
What really has me so excited about Canty is that he's truly part of the team, now. And everything that's being talked about him is related to his play on the field and his interaction with the team.

It's just icing on the cake that BP has a man crush on him.

The cherries are that he can sing, has a really nice smile, and a frame that I can't stop drooling over... :D

Thats definately good to hear. He's just perfect for a 3-4 defense and his wingspan should cause distinct problems for OT's around the league. That guy has some long arms.

Can you imagine how difficult it'll be for OT's to get their hands on him and lock up on him?

Isnt Canty's role in the 3-4 to occupy the OT so that studs like Shanle and O'Neil can make the tackle?

The only question I had about him coming out of the draft was: Can he play with leverage? He's so tall and sometimes it's difficult for those guys to get leverage on the offensive linemen. Apparently, I needn't have worried.

Spears is going to be a monster at LE with his athleticism... I'm convinced of that. He's just too strong and too mobile not to be a force as a 3-4 end. If Canty is as good as he seems to be, we've got quite a pair of starting DE's for the next decade or so.

Then, throw in a rotation that has Ellis, Coleman, Ratliff and maybe Johnson and we're going to wear out some offensive linemen.

With Ferguson and Glover at the nose (and probably Ratliff or Johnson as a third guy), our DL is going to be outstanding.

With all of them doing their thing, the linebackers are going to have a hey-day.

Easy there big fella... it's still just pre-season.

Asthma I can tell you that height is not always a problem with leverage IF the taller man is good using his longer arms to keep the shorter man at bay. I see it in wrestling all the time.

can't wait until Saturday to see some of these blue chip rookies in action.
I can't even imagine what offensive coord. around the league are thinking when they have to gamplan against this front seven.....and then have to worry about Roy also. This will be the first time I will ever get excited about seeing our offense leave the field.

You're right, Mike. I know it can be done... it's just more difficult for those longer guys. If they can play with leverage though (as Canty appears to be able to), they really become trouble for the offensive linemen. Too Tall was a guy who played with leverage and created a lot of problems for the offense... Not to mention batted balls.

If Canty has a good sense of timing, he should be knocking a lot of passes down.

If that's true, I'm projecting nothing less than a tie for the NFC East crown.

* keeps fingers crossed *

luckily i got a front row seat on this bandwagon. spears from what i know is an great talent in his own right. ditto ware. but canty hasn't taken the beating of playing all of his last season in college, and i imagine he'll be fresh and full of fire. he's played the 3-4 which should give him an edge in preseason at least, and i'm not gonna sit here and say i don't think he can start this year. i believe he can and will. getting him in a trade from the Eagles - they will be cleaning their drawers a la Blade when the guy they traded away is voted defensive MVP of our game against them...

Canty seems to just have the ability to engage, gap control and still make the tackle... that's the only way I could possibly explain his incredible tackle total in college, he was racking up LB numbers from the tackle position... who does that? That just pure dominance from a combination of size, power, quickness and probably really strong hands. The guy could be a monster.

I'm confused. Do you want to hear Burt repeating Canty or WG? And who is doing the gushing?????

The other thing is the players that will be attempting to block him aren't use to blocking a guy that tall and you can't attack them the same way as you would a guy say 6'2/6'4 which a lot of these defensive lineman are these days.

I'm excited to have another tall defensive lineman out there.

The NFL is whole different level than college, but from watching some of the clips of him, he just does not get pushed back. He disrupts whole plays just by maintaining his space.

Is it me or is our defense beginning to look like it's being designed with the scheme and players to finally contain and beat McNabb and company?

I think so.... :D

Actually I think our Nickle has the real chance to be disruptive.
Spears,Glover,Canty(Ellis)
Ware(thornton)Dat,
Tnewman,Henry,Glenn
RW,Davis

With Glover being quicker he will truly disrupt things for the C/T and Ware would then be singled up and that is trouble for an offense.
