No More Coaching for Jimmy Johnson --
Fri Jan 19, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Los Angeles Times reports Fox Sports Jimmy Johnson, 63, he has another year left on his contract. After that, who knows? "When you get to be my age, everything is year by year," he said. But when asked about possibly coaching again, he emphatically said, "No."

Sorry to burst some peoples bubbles but this is what I and many others have been saying for a while.

I don't think anyone *really* thought Jimmy would come back...

But did anyone hear him on Mike & Mike this morning? It sure was refreshing to hear his attitude. He said he got his team relaxed for playoff games by preparing them the best... Jimmy compared it to being relaxed for a test you know you've studied well for. (We've heard that from him in the past.)

But he also said that he always did something to give his team confidence. He said he would always highlight at least one area of the game where he could demonstrate to his team that they were superior, so they would feel confident going in. And he said he always had some "momentum-changer" plays ready in case things started badly for his team, and he let his team know what they would be beforehand so they would expect it.

In other words, Jimmy was all about making his team feel good about themselves and filling them with confidence going in to a big game. Contrast that with Parcells' attitude that confidence is only borne of demonstrated ability, his obsession with keeping the team "grounded", and his claim that overconfidence is one of the biggest obstacles his team can face.

I know the Parcells Defense Team will bash me for it, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Bash....bash.....rip....rip.....

I'm worn out. I'll let it slide. I think I agree with you on that one. I don't think one style works more than the other, and team's are always obsessed with finding motivation and playing witha chip on the shoulder, and taking it one game at a time that staying grounded can be just as effective as getting hyped on yourselves.

But, considering we haven't finished strong since Jimmuh finished coaching, I'll defer to his motivational techniques.

Nice mirthy parallelism, but Jimmy Johnson is clearly not the head coach of sports television anchoring. He is the 4th Musketeer on Fox.

i like jimmy and i appreciate what he did - but we need to do that again in the same manner - young and hungry, not old and methodical. even if he did come back, it wouldn't be the same and i doubt we'd get what we want in the end.

No thats cool, actually. No bashing.

But again it must be pointed out that it only worked "half" the time. In Miami that was no secret to success. Yeah he won a couple close wildcard playoff games with that approach. But what went wrong the weeks after when his teams were getting totally destroyed 38-3 and 62-7 in the next round?

Guess they must of been *too* relaxed and overconfident. Or..something?

If we wanna give him credit for something he did 14 years ago with one particular team one might as well give BP some credit for his approach 8 years ago when he was getting the dog crap Jets to the AFC championship with Vinnie at the helm at the same time Jimmy was suffering through those aforementioned demolitions.

Theres no magic or right/wrong here. They've both proven they can win in certain scenarios and they've both proven they can struggle in certain scenarios.

The only person that could get Jimmy back is Jerry. But is Jerry Jones willing to give up the general manager position to Jimmy Johnson?
