No More Coaching for Jimmy Johnson --
Fri Jan 19, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Los Angeles Times reports Fox Sports Jimmy Johnson, 63, he has another year left on his contract. After that, who knows? "When you get to be my age, everything is year by year," he said. But when asked about possibly coaching again, he emphatically said, "No."

Sorry to burst some peoples bubbles but this is what I and many others have been saying for a while.
5 bucks says it won't make one iota of a difference. Not even posting a link to the article every time it comes up.

As long as his evaluation of talent is better than his predictions, remember his "the Eagles have no chance to make the playoffs" line?

But did anyone hear him on Mike & Mike this morning? It sure was refreshing to hear his attitude. He said he got his team relaxed for playoff games by preparing them the best... Jimmy compared it to being relaxed for a test you know you've studied well for.

He must have crammed the Cliff Notes at the last minute when he got outcoached by Coughlin 62-7 in his last playoff game.

Not only that but if I recall Troy, and I think there was someone else saying the same thing, that Jimmy's style started getting a tad old towards the end of his days with the cowboys.

They were saying that he would find any little thing to make it a big Bulletin Board type of drama to get the team fired up. Said towards the end he would be finding any little thing and it was growing old.

I also remember some saying that they knew he was wanting to leave after that last season...he was already inquiring about the jaguars or dolphins job.

Jimmy was great for the cowboys in a time we needed him, but he would not be the same now...it is a different time, different team and a different salary era...no salary cap back in his day and almost zero chances of having another hershel trade to help out.

I love Jimmy....but those that keep wanting him to come back just are not thinking of how some things went down then, and how things have changed now.

I actually thought of IR when I posted that, because he's always so quick to jump on the Jimmy Worshipers. :laugh2:

But I don't think that 62-7 game invalidates everything Jimmy ever did.

BTW, I'm not one of these "Jimmy is God" people. I used to listen to KLIF a lot back then when Mike Fisher had his show, and he was very good about pointing out that "Jimmy Jenius" didn't work as hard as the image he portrayed, and that he was in many ways a bit of a fraud. And I certainly don't harbor any dreams of his coming back now.

But it was still good to hear someone so gung-ho and confident contrasted with Parcells' dour style.

He's got as many Super Bowls as Parcells in no where near as many years...I'll take his Cliff Notes over Parcells' any day!

But did anyone hear him on Mike & Mike this morning? It sure was refreshing to hear his attitude. He said he got his team relaxed for playoff games by preparing them the best... Jimmy compared it to being relaxed for a test you know you've studied well for. (We've heard that from him in the past.)

But he also said that he always did something to give his team confidence. He said he would always highlight at least one area of the game where he could demonstrate to his team that they were superior, so they would feel confident going in. And he said he always had some "momentum-changer" plays ready in case things started badly for his team, and he let his team know what they would be beforehand so they would expect it.

In other words, Jimmy was all about making his team feel good about themselves and filling them with confidence going in to a big game. Contrast that with Parcells' attitude that confidence is only borne of demonstrated ability, his obsession with keeping the team "grounded", and his claim that overconfidence is one of the biggest obstacles his team can face.

I know the Parcells Defense Team will bash me for it, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Excellent post man! Bottom line?

Jimmy is the man.

Parcells sucks.

NEXT QUESTION.

Exactly...To compair Johnson with Parcells as a Cowboy coach is like comparing Johnson with Campo.

And comparing Jimmy Johnson back in the day...and expecting to get the same guy now...is like the skins fans getting Joe Gibbs back in the day with the Joe Gibbs now. :D

I have no doubt in my mind that Johnson could sit on his Johnson and still win no playoff games as Parcells has...and we would still be better off.

So...he could not win playoff games just like parcells has not won playoff games and we would be better?

I guess I don't see your logic if bill not winning playoff games is the main problem.

I guess if the coach can not win playoff games in time and ultimately get us to the Superbowl is the main goal, but you would be ok with that as long as it is not bill?

Strange.

I believe that Johnson would make changes if after 4 years with all the talent that Parcells has.. that he hasn't won a playoff game. That's why we would be better with Johnson.

I don't see any changes with Parcells. Do You?

you might also mention that Fisher is somewhat of a fraud himself...

Actually I have.

Different Defensive system since he first came here.

Most of the roster is different since he came here.

Different coaches since he first came here.

We have won more games since he has been here compared to the previous coach.

We have went to the playoffs twice, where we did not at all the few years since he has been here.

We have better overall players since he has gotten here.

We have had players that other teams wanted since he has been here.

I have seen us have a 1k back, two 1k WRs, better production from our TE.

So yes I have seen changes.

However if you stick with the no playoff wins with parcells, and day you would be ok with it with Jimmy...seems silly.

And yet we are no better off than we were with Campo or Gailey.

If you say we have not won any playoff games since then...than I would agree...however you said you would be ok with Jimmy even if had not won a playoff game either.

Which is the pot calling the kettle black.

I gave you examples where things HAVE changed after you asked.

I gave you some examples of how things changed for the better.

The bottom line is if you have beef with bill because he has not got the team to the superbowl or playoff victories...but say you would be ok with Jimmy even if he did not win any playoff games...it is about the same IMO. No reason to rag on one and be ok with the other for the same thing.

I didn't say that...I said Johnson could sit on his Johnson and get those results.

I think that after 4 years of the results with the talent that Parcells has got...Johnson would be making some major changes...while Parcells...decides if his batteries are charged and he if wants the privilege of Coaching the Cowboys again. And at this point has done nothing but lose coaches that he thought were good enough to hire in the first place.

But he HAS made changes since being here and I pointed them out.

Bill has made major changes so I still think you are running around in circles with that original statement.

But I will admit you are right about one thing.

Jimmy sure did not stick around very long after he got that butt whooping, much worse than bill ever got here, loss while coaching the dolphins.

He just up and quit.
