I don't think anyone *really* thought Jimmy would come back...

But did anyone hear him on Mike & Mike this morning? It sure was refreshing to hear his attitude. He said he got his team relaxed for playoff games by preparing them the best... Jimmy compared it to being relaxed for a test you know you've studied well for. (We've heard that from him in the past.)

But he also said that he always did something to give his team confidence. He said he would always highlight at least one area of the game where he could demonstrate to his team that they were superior, so they would feel confident going in. And he said he always had some "momentum-changer" plays ready in case things started badly for his team, and he let his team know what they would be beforehand so they would expect it.

In other words, Jimmy was all about making his team feel good about themselves and filling them with confidence going in to a big game. Contrast that with Parcells' attitude that confidence is only borne of demonstrated ability, his obsession with keeping the team "grounded", and his claim that overconfidence is one of the biggest obstacles his team can face.

I know the Parcells Defense Team will bash me for it, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

I agree. Two completely opposite coaching styles. The team first, no glory hounds, no cockiness and overconfidence, won Belichick 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. The Cowboys were team first, but had an entirely different swagger and attitude and also won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. Bill tears his team a new hole every chance he can get and wins a Super Bowl. Dick Vermeil has a good cry with his team and wins a Super Bowl. All kinds of approaches I guess. Whatever gets them to play as a team.

On a side note, I didn't realize Jimmy was already so old. He's almost the same as Bill. I knew he wasn't a spring chicken, but I thought he was maybe late 50's, 60 at most.

Bill has made major changes so I still think you are running around in circles with that original statement.

What Major changes has he made? That hasn't been forced on him like Payton or Zimmer or Lee or Dehaven?

Besides going to the 3-4 which was a Great move.

I have already given you a list...if you wish to ignore the changes he has made since he has been here that is your choice, but I don't feel like typing it out again.

He has made changes every year he has been here, we don't know if he will make more changes yet, but if rumors are true he has attempted to make some changes already (wanting capers to come in as DC).

If he stays we will see what other changes are made in FA or the draft or coaches.

It seems like you just made a statement that was silly, IMO, and now are running around in circles.
So instead of going on and on in a debate that will change neither of our opinions on your original statement I will just say we agree to disagree and move on.

Besides Phantasm II is on cinemax now and I want to watch it...what can I say I like the cheesy old horror films and Phantasm II is one I enjoy, plus it has a great old Hemi-Cuda in it.

Take care and good night.

How bout starting 3 different QB's the first 3 years and giving a 4th guy the majority of the starts in the 4th year?

One could debate I guess whether thats good or bad... trying to get better or how it keeps from establishing continuity.... but I've been saying for about 3 years now what he's done at the QB position hasnt given us the best chance to win while we've gone about rebuilding as well.

And part of it goes back to day 1.. the debate whether Jerry really wanted him to evaluate the guys that were here before he made any decisions on the position or not.

Still makes me wonder what might've been diff had we just brought a guy like Delhomme in afterall.

Oh great...Carter and Testeverde and then Bledsoe.

If that's his major changes or choices whatever you want to call them..They blow...He fails again.

Yeah I didnt say they were good moves. But they are "big" just from the standpoint that changing QB's tends to be viewed that way. The only possible way one could try and suggest they were good though was because like at any other position you're trying to get better.

But from my POV we didnt just bring BP in to rebuild, but we should've been trying to give ourselves the best chance to win while we were at it since in this day and age we see supposed no shot teams make runs every year.. even if they're just one year wonders because the stars aligned right.

His first year was a good example of that actually. If we could win 10 with QC and T-Ham, I must presume that with Delhomme and a better FA RB we could've done even better.

Every year since might've still shook down the same for better or worse.. even insofar as personnel. We still prolly coulda/woulda had a Romo waiting in the wings and we likely would've drafted some RB's anyway.

But whatever.. it didnt happen that way and it's history now.

No More Coaching for Jimmy Johnson --
Fri Jan 19, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Los Angeles Times reports Fox Sports Jimmy Johnson, 63, he has another year left on his contract. After that, who knows? "When you get to be my age, everything is year by year," he said. But when asked about possibly coaching again, he emphatically said, "No."

Sorry to burst some peoples bubbles but this is what I and many others have been saying for a while.

but...but....he's just DYING to come back to dallas!

I actually thought of IR when I posted that, because he's always so quick to jump on the Jimmy Worshipers. :laugh2:

What can I say, CL. You know my weaknesses. :) (But in fairness to me, I did politely exclude that he also got blownout 38-3 in the playoffs the year before the 62-7 blowout)

Seriously, I would love to see Jimmy come back and coach and see once and for all if he could duplicate the same success without a Herchel Walker trade giving him twice as much draft picks as everyone else. I'd love to see him on a level playing field rebuild a team in the salary cap era. I'll give him his due, he had a great eye for defensive talent. I'm not saying he wasn't without his strengths. But his history of drafting offense in the money rounds was a little shakey ... Alexander Wright, Yatil Green, Jon Avery, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Didn't exactly do too well at the QB position either when he didn't inherit the #1 pick in a draft with a super-blue, chip, consensus #1 franchise QB prospect. He had man crushes on Damon Huard and Steve Walsh, for God's sakes.

In fact, his whole legacy is a little shakey on offense. Its often brought up what Bill's defenses have done without Belichick, but look at Jimmy's offenses in Dallas and Miami without Norv. Talk about your so-called unimaginative, vanilla schemes. Imagine what the Dolphin fans had to endure watching Kareem Abdul Jabbar carry the rock 25 times a game with his 3.2 ypc and 4.85 speed. In fact, KAJ was a perfect example of how Jimmy didn't have a exactly have a proven formula for success that he could duplicate elsewhere. You know what he was thinking when he made that pick "Hey look, a big time producing college runningback who fell in the draft because he ran a slow 40 time. Looks like I just found me another Emmitt". Or Yatil Green "Hey, look a big, playmaking Hurricane WR coming off a major knee injury. I seem to remember inheriting another big, playmaking Hurricane coming off a knee injury in Dallas who turned out alright. Looks like I got me another Michael Irvin, boys". Ugh, not quite.

I think Jimmy knows he caught lightening in a bottle in Dallas, and one of the main reasons why he's never attempted a return.

He's got as many Super Bowls as Parcells in no where near as many years...I'll take his Cliff Notes over Parcells' any day!

And the hillbilly that won the Powerball last year probably made more money than the Dean of Wharton. It doesn't mean I'd rather let him manage my 401k.
