I’d have no argument the entire front office needs to be cleaned out. But since we know Jethro &Son won’t be they need someone they trust and with ability to scout talent . Which is Wills primary responsibility.
The scouting and player development is questionable.......we draft guys that need 2-3 years to flash on the screen, we don't grab talent from the smaller schools (Philly #1 pick from Toledo and starting), we dare walk on an HBCU campus.

I agree. We continue to miss in draft which has cost us building a stronger contender. But imagine where we’d be if we didn’t hit as much as we have .

Once we realize that our ownership doesn’t take player evaluation and development serious enough can we begin to fully understand why it’s difficult to take our franchise very serious.

Our dysfunctional ownership simply provides entirely too many disadvantages and handicaps in personnel to overcome .

.....or just go with the "go to" move......blame the QB.

I’m not in that group. My target has always been our owner.

That doesn’t mean there is some responsibility to go around but everything else is basically a product of our dysfunctional ownership.

I started comparing NFL GMs and their ages last year.
Below is a list of the 31 General Managers in the NFL who are also NOT NFL owners. Also included in the list is their age and how many years they have been in that current job as GM.
  • Arizona Cardinals | Monti Ossenfort, age 47 been GM in Ari 2 years.(Previously GM at Tenn 4 years)
  • Atlanta Falcons | Terry Fontenot, age 44, been GM in Atl since 2021.
  • Baltimore Ravens | Eric DeCosta, age 53, been GM in Balt since 2019.
  • Buffalo Bills | Brandon Beane, age 48 been GM in Buff since 2017.
  • Carolina Panthers | Dan Morgan, age 46 in his 2nd year.
  • Chicago Bears | Ryan Poles, age 39, been GM in Chicago since 2022.
  • Cincinnati Bengals | Duke Tobin, age 53, (technically he’s the “Director of Player Personnel” but serves as de facto GM for owner Mike Brown) He’s in his 24th year as bengals executive
  • Cleveland Browns | Andrew Berry, age 37, been GM in Cleveland since 2020
  • Denver Broncos | George Paton, age 54, been GM in Denver since 2021
  • Detroit Lions | Brad Holmes, age 45, been GM in Detroit since 2021
  • Green Bay Packers | Brian Gutekunst, age 51, been GM in GB since 2018
  • Houston Texans | Nick Caserio, age 48, been GM in Houston since 2021
  • Indianapolis Colts | Chris Ballard, age 55, been GM in Indy since 2017
  • Jacksonville Jaguars | Trent Baalke, age 61, been GM in Jax since 2021.
  • Kansas City Chiefs | Brett Veach, age 47, been GM in Kansas City since 2017.
  • Las Vegas Raiders | Tom Telesco, age 52, his 2nd year as GM in Vegas (was chargers GM from 2013-23)
  • Los Angeles Chargers | Joe Hortiz, age 49, in hist 2nd year as GM of chargers.
  • Los Angeles Rams | Les Snead, age 54, been rams GM since 2012
  • Minnesota Vikings | Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, age 43, GM in Minn since 2021
  • Miami Dolphins | Chris Grier, age 54, been GM in Miami since 2016.
  • New England Patriots | Elliott Wolf, age 42, in his first year as Pats GM
  • New Orleans Saints | Mickey Loomis, age 55, been NO GM since 2013
  • New York Giants | Joe Schoen, age 44, been Giants GM since 2022
  • New York Jets- VACANT- fired Joe Douglas, age 47, who had been jets GM since 2019
  • Pittsburgh Steelers | Omar Khan, age 48, been Steelers GM since 2022
  • Philadelphia Eagles | Howie Roseman, age 49, been Philly GM since 2019
  • San Francisco 49ers | John Lynch, age 53, been GM in SF since 2017
  • Seattle Seahawks | John Schneider, age 53, been GM in Seattle since 2010
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Jason Licht, age 54, been GM in Tampa since 2014
  • Tennessee Titans | Ran Carthon, age 43, in his 2nd year as GM at Tenn
  • Washington Commanders | Adam Peters, age 44, in his 2nd year as GM in Wash
NFL GMs who are also owners:
  • Jerry Jones, age 82, is now the oldest GM in NFL history, has been GM of the Cowboys 36 years.
  • Stephen Jones is 60 (So SJ would be the second oldest GM in the league if he takes over, lol)
Average age of an NFL GM (without Jerry in count): 47.5
Oldest GM in league besides Jerry: Trent Baalke, Jacksonville GM, age 61.
Average length of tenure of NFL GMs other than Jerry: 8 years

Tom Landry was fired at 64 because the game had passed him. Tex Schramm was replaced by Jerry as GM in 1989 when Schramm was 68.
I know a lot fans think Stephen is really pulling most of the GM strings these days but he will be 61 in June.

It is very clear that being an NFL GM is now a young man’s game. Except in Dallas.
I think the main point is “It was never Jerry’s game…”.

Not many bigger critics of Jethro than me for several decades. But while we must take into account he’s preventing us from more success he also deserves some credit for not being a consistent dormant team.

Amazingly he’s been able to field a fairly competitive playoff team more years than not. Something some more normally ran FO’s and franchises are unable to achieve.

The difference is they can finally get it right with the right decision on FO, Coaching, etc. We are stuck in this mediocrity hovering around enough to make playoffs some seasons but not enough for deeper runs .

To Jethro’s credit except for a few exceptions usually caused by critical injuries to QB(2024, 2020,2015,2010), with exception of Campo tenure (2000-2002)he’s been able to remain relevant which has enabled him less fallback.

As a matter of fact he has even experienced much support from some fans like the 3 straight 12 win seasons , early on with Dak and Zekes careers and some of the Romo years. The fact he’s been able to avoid on the most part continued or sustained losing seasons it’s allowed him less fallback overall.

“dormant”…

That’s exactly right.

Let me help you. Jerry is a parasite feeding off the good will developed under the Landry years and Jimmy Johnson. He has been “relevant” as you say because he lucked into 2 decent QBs. Pre Romo this team was a dumpster fire. Jerry has had among the worst playoff “success” in the league for the past 30 years. 30 years. 30 years. All the while he has embarrassed this organization with his drunken boorish behavior with some PT Barnum sprinkeled in. He is a joke. Only now fans and the media are starting to catch on and call him out more. They do this because the blood is obviously in the water. The franchise Goodwill is used up. Jerry and his spawn are parasites. Period.

He’s a disgusting turd who doesn’t care about his players or the fans. Sure he wants to be their best friends but he will never give them the opportunity to win a championship and they deserve better. Careers are wasted here and anyone who really wants to compete in the playoffs has to go somewhere else!

Of course money being the most important thing, the players don’t seem to care either way. But I’m surprised FAs with plenty of options would even entertain Jerry and his kid, they’re absolute bottom feeder scum.

What a joke. The sad reality is that Jerry will likely hold onto the GM role until the very end......literally. He’ll still be playing GM with one foot in the grave.

Imagine being so arrogant and self-centered that you refuse to do what’s truly best for your franchise.

No doubt but the fact it’s taken 30 years of this foolishness for fans to catch on exemplifies how he’s been able to reel them in with relativity selling and hyping hope.

And my hunch since I have little faith most fans have the wherewithal to stand firm against him that the first sign of a comeback or resurgence they’ll all be lined up again.

It’s never been what’s best for our franchise. Except for the early years with Jimmy only to gain respect and generate revenue again.

He has never had interest in owning the Cowboys if he isn’t the man, the face of the Cowboys.

We saw that when he parted ways with Jimmy that winning championships wasn’t enough for him.

Classic narrative seeding…”Jerry is just old but he was a good GM back in the Day…”

What a lark.
We aren’t seeing them around here now but I was still arguing with Jethro supporters leading up to this season.

They are lurking waiting for the first sign of a resurgence . Much like Dak trolls waiting for us to fail. Homers can have trolling tendencies too.

Sadly, we don’t have to imagine…it’s our reality every day.
We’ll see if this current rhetoric holds but shame on fans waiting this long to recognize and call it out.

I’m afraid it’s too late to bring the changes needed we all know is necessary. I’d bet the ranch on it.

My hunch is they’ll look the other way first sign of a resurgence and the hype will regurgitate again.

Jerry Jones has the title, but 58 year old Will McClay does the work of GM.
No he doesn't. Jerry Jones claimed he made the Lance trade on his own. I guarantee you McClay didn't think giving a 4th rounder (a coveted early day 3 pick) for a WR who had shown nothing in Carolina was a good idea. McClay isn't the one sitting on his throne in the draft room making the final call on who to pick.

McClay also isn't the one addressing the team in the lockerroom, going on radio and undermining the coaches, and demeaning his coaching staff by requiring them to go over the game plan.

Truth is, we don't know what to lay at McClay's feet. He doesn't have any autonomy.
