Savage rated the South safeties in this order (listed with comments from his evaluation):

J.J. Wilcox, Georgia Southern: "He has natural range from the middle of the field and is physical when he comes downhill to support the run. He also returns kickoffs and should be an immediate contributor on special teams as a rookie."

Bacarri Rambo, Georgia: "Bacarri is a sizable, one-speed athlete who is fluid in his movements and has a nose for the football. ... If he can run fast enough at the Combine, Bacarri will be a third-, fourth-round draft choice with a chance to become a starter in the future."

Shawn Williams, Georgia: "Although he is aggressive on plays in front of him, he is a straight-line athlete with lateral limitations in space and pass coverage. Shawn should be able to play on special teams as a rookie and may get an opportunity to help on defense in certain packages."

Robert Lester, Alabama: "This strong safety-type athlete has the size to support the run, but does have some lateral stiffness in his change-of-direction and coverage skills. He tends to get 'stuck' when transitioning from forward to reverse and that will be an issue when playing from the middle of the field."

I agree. Wilcox seemed better than Rambo in coverage and he's only played one year ever.

I thought Lester looked really bad in the 1 on 1 drills but he was mismatched on King from Georgia. One play Wilcox was on King and he did just fine, but King didn't take him inside.

Skins fans think Rambo was the #1 safety in the draft :laugh2:

UDFA Jakar Hamilton was on the verge of beating out either Rambo or Shawn Williams for a starting job at Georgia but was forced to transfer due to academic problems.

Has nothing to do with which is better unless both are on the same team playing the same position and one beats out the other.

Pleaseeeee we did not get your boy...

I doubt he is starting week 1, and week 1 also has nothing to do with which player is going to have the better career. Week 1 does not mean anything at all.

How does it not matter? Look at Wilcox competition. Lol no better than Washington. And if Rambo is balling in preseason it'll be even more clear

At this point I don't care that we didn't get Rambo. Fact is, Wilcox needs to perform. I don't wanna hear about potential.

You act like Rambo is something more than potential. He didn't look better than Wilcox at the senior bowl.

If Wilcox isn't starting at some point this year he's a flop. I WANT him to be what people are saying but Rambo will be making plays ASAP. You people think I just want to be right but that's not true. I'm tired of drafting bum safeties. Like Ware said its put up or shut up time for everyone. Players and front office people. I heard they were doing cartwheels about getting Wilcox. Show me why. Not 3 years from now. Smh

Again...they did not get your boy. So many teams had multiple chances to get your boy and they passed. There are reasons for that.

Deal with it.

i will say that we have a number of projects at the safety position and i would have preferred to get a starter this year given that a player like phillip thomas was picked in the 4th round (after wilcox)

however, these guys do have a lot of potential (and i am including church and johnson)

so, if we get 2 legitimate starters from this group (not just players starting because others are hurt, etc), then i will be happy

and there is a chance that might happen

That's bold and Romo will torch him.

Blackbull I sort of understand your frustrations.

With a deep safety class and a strong need there, I was almost certain we'd get a walk-in safety in this class.

I hope Wilcox doesn't take as long as Church did to develop. I don't want to see Wilcox solely on special teams for 3 years before he gets some real PT.

And by your logic if Rambo isn't starting at some point this year, then he is a flop. You've set a pretty high bar for the #191 selection in the 6th round. If you were so concerned about getting an immediate starter, you should be upset with us not getting Reid or Cyprien.

That guy could be good.

We got a lot of talented options at safety. Surely 2 of them will pan out.

The guy went to the Senior Bowl and was by far the best safety on the field which included Rambo. So why should we assume that Rambo is ready to play and will be some stud S making all kinds of plays and Wilcox is 2 or 3 years away? They were side by side for comparison during Senior Bowl week and every single report you can find says Wilcox was the better player. Not only that but every ranking I've seen has Wilcox ahead of Rambo.

Yea except Rambo was a three year starter, all sec all american. Had he not been suspended there is a good chance he would have been the first safety taken. By fat the most productive guy that came out this year.

Honestly none of us know who will be better right now, but it is easy to say we are literally just hoping based on potential with wilcox. He played against inferior talent and only one year. To say he is raw is an understatement. However mayock and kiper like him so hopefully they are right! Im pulling for him.
