JJT On Sporting News Radio Today Said It Will Be Norv...

When Parcells was first hired, he was acceptable because he was considered a next level candidate. His NFL coaching resume showed that he was a next level candidate due to his ability to rebuild teams and take them to the next level. I would grade his results here as Incomplete. He rebuilt the team, but he wasn't able to take it to the next level.

So yes the team is better than it was when Parcells arrived and is seemingly on the verge of going to the next level. Do you really think Norv can take this team to the next level? I have my doubts.

i do, but thats just my opinion. i think dallas has tried to do this thing by the defensive frame of mind, and hasnt gotten them anywhere but a .500 record. the offensive tools are there. if any of u have paid attention, and get your personal bias aside for a minute, u would know that dallas was successful when they started the game with offensive fire. instead of playing from behind. the defense just seems more fluid. as the case with most teams. a mind like norv would bring together the offensive tools dallas has. taking pressure off the defense that a defensive mind would put on that defense. and would go after that win, instead of playing not to lose.

And what did having perhaps the top "name" coach in the NFL do for us WG?

See, I think the coach is important-- but it's not the "whole". I think we have better talent here than what Norv has ever had available to him.

Just because it's Norv Turner (maybe) doesn't reduce my expectations one bit.
I'm not stomping for a "name" coach, Mikey. See my response to LatinMind re: Parcells.

I've got doubts about Norv's ability to be a HC. Nothing he's done in his stops at DC and Oakland have made me pause and say he's better than his record. That his numbers are indeed a reflection of his coaching ability.

Currently there isn't a coach out there that I see as a top-level coach that can get this team to the next level.

No. It's not a bad argument. It's the odds. Monkeys probably haven't flown out of your butt,

Shows how much you know...

OK, actually, it was tiny, winged Hillary Clinton clones... :D

Say WHAT??

You'd best check the record before you go woofin' that nonsense...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners were dead last in the league in total offense, averaging a ridiculous 224.2 yards per game... in 2006, they averaged 303.8 yard per game...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners averaged 105.6 yards rushing per game, in 06 they had that up to 135.8 yards per game (sixth in the league)...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners were dead last in the league in passing, averaging a pathetic 118.6 yards per game... in 06, they had that up to 168.0 yards per game...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners averaged 14.9 points per game, in 06 they had that up to 18.6 points per game (this with a young QB who has been rushed into action before he was ready)...

Fact-- in 2005, Alex Smith's quarterback rating was a dismal 40.8, he averaged 5.3 yards per attempt, and he threw 11 ints to just 1 TD... in 06, the rating was up to 74.8, the yards per attempt was up to 6.54, he threw 16 TDs and 16 ints...

You're looking at improvement, in many cases significant improvement, in EVERY area of the offense... no, other than their ranking in rushing offense, they weren't one of the league's most potent offenses, but you don't go from the league's worst offense-- by FAR-- one year to a good offense the next... to expect that is completely ludicrous...

Norv Turner did a TERRIFIC job with the 49ers offense last year...

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be dubious about the hiring, even though I'm a good deal more optimistic than you are, it's really kinda sad you have to go and distort Norv's record last year in your lust to trash him...

Norval's offense was decent last year, but it was nothing earth shattering. This is a lateral move in every regard because our offense was better last year. Replace our offense with Norval's offense and this team doesn't make the playoffs last season.

dallas already did the top level coach thing, maybe thats not what they need. but a level headed coach

I really cannot believe the negative reaction to Norv - I really can't. He's a Dallas Cowboy man! as is Garrett! Parcells was not! He never embraced the team / fans /city / media at ALL!
Norv is a pro - he knows the game as does Mr.Ivy League now up in the booth.
As I said before - we need a Class DC, a guy who can revamp this D a guy who can regenerate Fat Roy , who can gt Ware in better position to get 15 sacks. To get Canty & Spears going. That's the concern now.

Norv was also a Commander.

Honestly I don't care if he was a cowboy or a Commander.

I want the best for the team and I don't think Norv is it.

Are our expectations so low that we as fans should accept a guy because we think he won't screw it up?

Is Norv really a next level candidate? I have serious doubts about that. If he's hired, it comes across as very Campo-ish and I liked him. At least his personality.

What would you prefer the Cowboys do here, WG?? We know you don't like Norv, offer us some realistic alternatives...

Realistic meaning let's not go speculating about coaches who would cost us draft picks to sign...

I'm not distorting his record. Their offense still rated at the bottom of the league.

You do raise some good points though. I didn't look into the improvements they made, rather, only where they stood in comparison to the rest of the league. In this sense, Turner's job was nothing to write home about.

He was also a Dolphin, a Charger, and a 49er.

But hey those three years he spent here makes him a 'boys lifer...

if norv is hired,it means JJ isn't so sure about just handing over the offense to Garrett,to me if he was,he would hire Wade. What scares me about both, can they motivate these guys and get them to respond the way Payton did with the Saints team. That alone concerns me more then anything:eek:

Hire Norv, and Fasano is a wasted pick unless Witten goes down.

Depth is a bad thing??

Now I KNOW you're a disciple of the Mad Midget, LOL...

Witten will move on.

In your dreams, Skins fan... you've got a lot of years of hating him ahead of you...

I'm still leaning for more of a defensive minded coach and think Phillips would have been a pretty good hire. If we do with Norv, I am very concerned about our D.

What would Norv think of and how would the TO relationship be?

Owens is going to leave footprints all over Turners back as he walks all over him.:D

He will put this weapon in position to be successful. Remember it's "Norv & Garrett" not Norv solely. ;)

I'll give you an unbiased report on Norv:

1. Expect Tony and Julius Jones to become absolute beasts.
2. Your offensive line will be decent.

the bad:

1. No halftime adjustments
2. Team will look lost on Sundays just like Norv does on the sidelines. If you go into the 4rth quarter trailing... dont expect to win.
3. Dumb play calls and horrible clock management
