JJT: Wade Phillips living in land of gum drops and lollipops

so now its: blame the "lack of talent"
I don't know what those quotes are for, because I didn't use those words. What's with the misquoting in this thread?

I'm talking about the many posts I've seen about us being the most talented team in the league. Some have even said "by far" the most talented team in the league.

Do we have good talent, yes. Is it on some level above everyone else? Not in my opinion. We're not more talented than even the Giants and Eagles in our own division.

And of course coaching matters. Never said it didn't.

Rivers is what I am scared of. He has weapons all over and he uses them all well.

I think we are in big trouble sunday.

They love that wheel to Sproles. That's one of the most terrifying things to me, because we don't have anyone who can cover that.

I think our corners and defensive strategy match up well against SD's big receivers. I think we match up worse with the smaller, precise guys.

That one guy has a very unnatural tan. Must have put that tanning lotion on his face. The guy with the unusually blonde hair in the bowl cut.

Green Bay's 3-4 gave us fits, I'm worried more about this game than the Saints game.

If we lose this Sunday, we almost certainly lose the next Sunday. Then we find ourselves in a familiar position as last year. Win and you're in, week 17 against the Eagles. Which, none of us want to see again.

I like the part when the bus breaks down and they all die an agonizing death in the dessert and the vultures eat the innards of leslie gore and Duane Hickman.:D

But I'll give you this, Norv has done well with Rivers and the offense, and I'd have been very happy to have him here because it would've meant he'd be teaching Tony instead of Garrett.

Tell you what: Norv would have been teaching both, which would have been the perfect scenario. Remember that by the time cupcake and Norv were interviewed, Garrett was already hired. But the Jerrathor fell, again, for the " need " of the team instead of " the better option ". He thought the team needed a defensive coordinator more than a strong headcoach, and that led to cupcake.

Mind you, it was understandable ( a little ) because the team had just come off a very disappointed season even though it had a strong headcoach, because the defense was completely inept.

Still, the lesson to be learn from that is that you need to go always with the better option instead of just the option you need. That's something that the Jerrathor better keep in mind this off-season when he's hiring his next head coach.

What I've heard said many times on DFW radio is that Jerry insisted that he wanted Garrett to call plays, and Norv said he didn't think Jason was ready for that yet. Galloway and others have said that played a big part in Jerry not picking him.

And Galloway is big time buddies with Norv, so I don't doubt it a bit.

That said, it's not like it was a clear-cut decision that Norv was better, either. Norv had a horribly losing record as an HC before he got to San Diego.

What is so stupid about this, and once again gets to my contention, that the main problem is Jerry Jones, is why would you want to hire one of the best play callers in the NFL and then have him turn the play calling over to someone else? Football guy Jerry is a mirage. He doesn't exist. He is only that in his own mind.

If you don't want Norv Turner calling plays, a. You are out of your mind and b. You shouldn't have talked to him in the first place.

No doubt about it.

Yep...Sproles is the one that I think will give us the most trouble. Just like how westbrook has killed us in the passing game over the years.

because I think the Jerrathor knows Norv is one of the best strategists in the league. I think that info from Galloway was taken out of context by him because it doesn't make much sense to hire an offensive minded HC only to tell him he can't call the plays.

The defensive/offensive side makes more sense.

by the way, I missed this earlier on:

They've played in a horrible, horrible division as well. Do you think they'd have done what they did in our division where they don't have four gimme games a year in KC and Oakland?

Don't understimate the Chargers. Yes, their division is crappy, but looking at their schedule, they beat the Giants on the road and they beat the Eagles at home. On both instances, it was the offense who got them through it too. If they were in our division, imo, they'd be at least in the same position that we are, if not with a better record because I doubt they would have gotten swepted by the Giants.

I never said that. At all.
Our team isn't that talented at all, at least not compared to other top teams

Perhaps the "at all" part is what threw me off. To me, that "at all" implies we aren't that talented. Personally, I think we are no worse talent-wise than any other contending team and that includes those with unblemished records. So if it isn't the talent, what exactly is it?

Culture. Plain and simple.

The players are conditioned to think and react at extremes. Either they are the "best" like we thought last year or in the face of collapse, they launch themselves into a litany of excuses, delusion and outright denial to explain away 13 years of failure. That comes from the top.

ssssshhhhhh!!!!

the mods and the coolaid drinkers on this board want to distract from the real issues so they use the oldest strategy in the book: "shoot the messenger".
If you'd actually asked one instead of lumping us in one group, you'll find we don't all agree.

Hell, if you'd read Hos' post game thread and Juke's postgame thread, you'd notice the difference in tone.

Do you ever get the feeling some people cannot distinguish between our opinions and our jobs here? It doesn't matter how many times we say that on the forums we are not Mods, some mule headed poster can't get that through their atavist forehead so that it sinks into their conscious thinking.

If we were half as bad as some people think we are this place would be a ghost town. I personally would be a one man ban machine if you listen to this screed. I can't even tell you the last person I did ban. I think it was a spammer several weeks ago.

back then for the HC and I still want him today. He would have been great for TR. He's also, head and shoulders, a BETTER strategist than Philips will ever be and remember that cupcake Wade is the D-coordinator for this team, not just the HC.

The reality he thought Norv would get the job but he liked other canidates as well
I think Norv is perfect for this job, at this point. Not that Philips would be a bad hire either, or Rivera for that matter
