Joe Haden Cut

Right .......... but if it takes 5m a year to sign DAL would pay the whole 5m

Yep.

The thing is the player and the new team usually have no problem sticking it to the former team. So Dallas (or whoever) will give him less than $4M the first year so that the Browns are stuck paying him.

If I'm Haden, I sign a 1-year deal with a contender, bet on myself, and hope to cash in as a free agent next off-season.

I'd certainly cut Kellen Moore regardless. Guy can't play.

But I'd be OK risking Marquez White to waivers for Haden. I think given White's missed time and up and down play, there a better than average chance he makes it to the practice squad.

Just my opinion.

I think White was probably headed for waivers/PS anyway.

You figure we're keeping, as the CB depth chart:

Scandrick, Carroll, Brown, Awuzie, Lewis

We rarely carry 6, but I'd carry 6 if it meant adding Haden to that list. It goes from an unknown to at least feeling reasonably comfortable.

Just visited the Browns forum. Most of them are glad he's gone... say he's been terrible for 3 years now. Gets burnt like toast far too often. Old and injury prone, etc. I repeat, most BROWNS fans are glad he's gone.. That tells me all I need to know. No thanks.

Key Word: "Browns Fans"

A change of location might be the cure to his recent struggles.

And as soon as he signs elsewhere, every other fan base will say the same thing! Us included haha!

Sometimes a change of scenery is what a player needs. Playing for a competitor may help him out

Well Terrance Newman was a guy who was on the decline and done when Dallas cut him. 5 years later he's still going strong and a solid CB for the Vikings. So it can happen, provided the player isn't treated as a savior and put in positions to succeed.

CBs hold up better than most positions. There's always risk of a drop-off, but plenty of CBs have played well into their 30s.

It's been a few hours already... why haven't we signed him and sent Nolan Carrol'ing already?!!

Same here.

Makes sense for him to want to sign with the Steelers over us if the money is similar.

The familiarity with the competition is huge for a veteran player. Signing to the NFC will have him go up against a whole different group of guys.

I think a lot of fans are guilty of revisionist history once the team decides to move on from a player. Even us fans here did that with Ware and Newman. Haden has been a pro bowl cailber player most of his career, if anything he was a "diamond surrounded by trash". It may be possible that there is more to his injuries than we know, but outside of that he is way better than any corner we've got.

$2 million?!?!?!

If that's the going rate for the guy on a one-year deal, give me two please!

I'd easily pay him the $4 million I'm paying for Nolan Carroll!

:omg:

Sheer stupidity if true. If you tell any fan who they choose between Carroll and Haden, there is no debate.

I'd be in all in for anything around $4MM. It's worth the risk. CB is still a major problem for this team and I'll take a chance on a high ceiling guy like Haden. Worst case? He costs you $4MM and one year. That's it.

We freaking paid Nolan Carroll that much.

Eagles have Torrey Smith who played for the Ravens.
Skins have Pryor who played for the Browns.
So we got those two teams covered.:)
