They could run into cap issues ... only have 3.26 to spend
What's the going rate for a 28 year old cornerback on a 1 year deal?
Also -- with Joe Haden being available, how do you add him to your 53? Expose a younger CB you've started to develop to waivers, or cut Kellen Moore?.

The answer is always to cut Kellen Moore...
regardless of the question.
4 NFL playoff contenders that should sign Joe Haden

2. Dallas Cowboys
After their secondary was picked apart in free agency, the Cowboys could use all the help they can get at the corner position. Dallas used two Day 2 draft picks on corners - Jourdan Lewis and Chidobe Awuzie - but rookie defensive backs tend to struggle.
The team doesn't have a lot of cap room to work with, but that shouldn't be a problem with Cleveland on the hook for most of Haden's salary if it falls under $4 million, which it likely would…

Right .......... but if it takes 5m a year to sign DAL would pay the whole 5mNot how the cap works.
Dead cap space is just that, space on the cap. Not actual additionnal money paid out to him. They do owe him $4M in guaranteed money so if a team signs him the Browns owe Haden the difference of $4M and whatever the new contract is for this season.
So if the Cowboys signed him to a contract where he makes $900,000 for the 2017 season, the Browns owe him $3,100,000.
