Joe Theismann: Any GM who trades for Tony Romo's 'damaged goods' should lose his job

I believe it was 3 years, 48 Million, for a Super Bowl winning QB. When he signed with Denver, I don't know that I would say he was in worse shape but, I would say that the situations were similar. Having said this, teams are not going to look at Manning and Tony the same way. Tony has been injured consistently over the last 4 seasons. Manning was injured for a considerable amount of time but he wasn't injured season over season. There was no pattern of injury, per say. So, I've answered your question, now answer mine. What's the going rate for Backups or QBs on the IR?
Romo isn't on the IR and wasn't all year

The going for rate for starting QBs is at least a 1st

ps- it was 5/96m for Peyton

You guys ever notice how much these old heads really do hate the Cowboys and all the attention they get? God imagine if we win like 3 Super Bowls in 4 years again and we literally have new triplets. For a decade.

Sometimes football can be boring as an adult but that would get everyone talking again. Everyone already hates dez. Zeke is a superstar. And dak has the likability of Tom hanks on a pogo stick in a bouncy castle whatever that means

SAS in the house.
Tell me what's different than the QB and Running back from last year? How much better is Zeke playing than what Dmac did last year based on games started, and lack of QB help? You can throw out SAS all you want, but until you can answer the question, I'm right.

Gotta love that people think NFL GMs are actually going to care what Theismann says.

I can see it now............ player personnel guys at the Broncos offseason org meetings are going to be discussing bringing in Romo and John Elway is going to pound his fist on the table and say, "Didn't you guys hear what Theismann had to say!!!!!!"

Lmaoooooo Syd!!!!

Tony Romo went 12-3 in 2014. He went 3-1 in 2015.

Almost the exact same team from 2014 (and obviously the same in 2015) went 1-11 without him...

He makes any team he plays for a playoff contender. You put him on a team like Kansas City, Denver, NYJ, Houston... and you're probably super bowl bound.

Houston or Broncos. The Chiefs are already doing ok with their qb.

What is his record in Week 3 games?
No I'm serious. If the team is whack and he takes them from 6-5 all the way to 10-5 then loses in week 17 how can he be criticized for that? Everyone of those games are playoff games at that point.

I believe we had something similar happen in the 2012 season.

Former Commanders quarterback Joe Theismann has said for months that Tony Romo should quit football. So it's not shocking that Theismann, who led Washington to a Super Bowl win in his 12 years with the team, thinks the guy he deems fragile isn't leaving Dallas.

"Let's put this Tony Romo stuff to bed, OK?" Theismann told Bleacher Report Radio. "The man's had three back surgeries, he has a collar bone that's been broken twice, he's 36 years old, he plays behind - the last couple years he played behind probably the best offensive line in football [and] hasn't finished a season in the last five.

"Any general manager that would make a deal for Tony Romo shouldn't keep their job as general manager. It's a bad business decision plus what offensive line is going to be the same one he has in Dallas?

Remember when Taylor broke his Joe's leg and ending his career? I do

Bleacher Report is the worst. Theismann is the worst. Combined I don't know what they are but its beyond the worst

Any player that ends up on the IR will be overpaid, that goes without saying. James Hanna is overpaid by that standard. Any team trading for Romo is going to do their homework on his physical condition but he has already been cleared to play by the Cowboys.

Romo's injuries aren't cumulative like knee or hip injuries. The last two were essentially flukes that are unrelated and may never happen again.

And Payton Manning had a very serious neck injury and an albatross contract when he was cut by the Colts. The "going rate" at that point wasn't 3/48 like you say, it was 5/96 with 58 Million guaranteed. And that was with a more serious injury than Romo. Manning did have a Super Bowl ring and is a better player, but Romo has been to four Pro Bowls. The idea that he is brittle or that he was never any good to begin with are completely made up.

Manning was hurt just as bad as Tony with that neck problem. He managed to play two additional years and won another SB. Just saying that
these guys are athletes and Tony is motivated to give it one more try. Denver might be his ticket to the big dance if they can hold that team together.
Manning was also a generational QB.. Romo isnt.

Romo hasn't lasted 2 games the last three times he saw the field including preseason. He can't take a solid hit without something breaking. He'll draw a lot of interest when he's released but not likely anyone will risk a draft pick on him. Those who still think someone will risk a #1 on him are lost.

True, he was on most of it thou and are you really going to pay that much for a QB who has that history? Are you going to give a number 1 for that? If you do, you better be very, very secure and I mean Belichick type secure in your position because if you are wrong, it's your job. Who in the NFL is that secure and needs Tony? I mean, who are you trying to kid here? You think he's going to be a starter, based on what?

2010, broken collarbone. Missed 10 games but most of it was not put on IR. That doesn't change the fact that he missed 10 games. Are you going to pay for that if you another team?

2013, he was injured with a ruptured disk and missed the most important game of the season for us. Winner take all against Philly and what happened? Are you going to pay for that if you are another team?

2014 Transverse Fracture. He only missed the one game I believe but it's still another back injury. Are you going to pay for that if you are another team?

2015 Broken collarbone. Missed 7 games. Came back to play one game, was injured again in the 2nd with another Collarbone break and was out the rest of the season. Are you going to pay for that if you are another team?

2016 Compression Fracture. Never even saw the field in a regular season game. 3rd play of the preseason game against Seattle, done. Now he is the backup. Are you going to pay for that if you are another team?

Another team could trade for him but I think it's unlikely we see anybody pay what he's making now and I think we aren't going to see a 1st round pick for Tony. You are basically betting your job on it if you do that.

Manning was also a generational QB.. Romo isnt.

Manning was cut by the Colts because he had a worse injury than Romo and a 28 Million dollar bonus due on top of his salary. If Romo had that kind of cap hit for next year he would be an automatic cut and no one would be posting about this.

Instead Romo is scheduled to make less money next year than guys like Jay Cutler, which is part of the equation in trade discussions.

People should really disregard Theismann's and Donovon McNabb's obviously jaded take on the Cowboys.

Actually, if you were smart you would disregard all of their opinions, because they are pretty much morons.

Romo is going to have pass a physical as part of a trade and I'm guessing it will be more thorough than your typical physical. Romo, IF he wants to be traded, is going to get to handpick his team, and that GM will either want him or not. Elway gave Manning millions of dollars fresh off a very experimental neck surgery. The Jets are paying Ryan FitzPatrick $12 million to play QB for them this year.

I could easily see either one of those GM's trading for Romo.

Once again, to clarify, Theismann is a real-life moron.

I do think that Tony will command a first round pick. The last thing that possible suitors for Tony want is for him to hit the open market. I do believe that he will sign a deal that is much cheaper and more manageable if he is traded for. If he hits the open market......he is going to be much more expensive.
