Joe Theismann: Any GM who trades for Tony Romo's 'damaged goods' should lose his job

Tony is also due 0m in guarantees.....his contract is just a suggestion.......it would be in his best interest to renegotiate his deal to add some guarantees if he is traded
Nonsense...Tony's best option is for Jerry to release him and for Tony to test the waters and see which teams are serious. He may get
even more money for two years that you could imagine. Tony's agent will know where the interest lies and Denver, Jets, Arizona and
a few others may drive the bidding up.

Romo homers........that is rich........we are called intelligent Cowboys fans.....go find a new team to hate on

No homer just facts...Manning was hurt much of that last SB year and he got paid quite well for two years work. Manning also
couldn't get his passes 40 yards down the field his last year. Romo will do quite well for himself me thinks.

But in reality those discussions go on behind closed doors even though its against the tampering rules. If you remember Dallas cutting DeMarcus Ware, Denver signed Ware about 30 seconds after he was cut because there had obviously been discussions between Ware's agent, Denver and the Cowboys to see who would pay more. Denver outbid Dallas and Ware was cut, even though the rules say none of those conversations were supposed to take place.

I agree with you. The thing is that Jerry did right by DWARE and he will do right by ROMO. Those are his guys and will be in HIS ROH. He's not going to stiff them by sending Romo off to Cleveland or Jacksonville.

Most of you guys are completely underestimating how rare it is that a QB as good as Romo hits the market....it just never happens

If Dak wasn't here Tony would be the QB of the Super Bowl contending Cowboys and one of the top 10 QBs in the game.......Dak being on a win streak doesn't make Romo a worse QB.....it is just a very unique situation.......

Romo and Dak are both too good to be back-ups....imagine if DAL made Dak available instead
Its a poor investment in terms of risk as far as any trade goes. He would be a good investment for a mid round pick but enough teams would likely be interested in him that they would likely have to give up a day 2 pick for him. For a player or Romo's age and injury history thats a poor investment. Especially for a team like Denver who has a poor offensive line amd has already spent a first round pick on a QB as well as giving up a 3rd rounder to get that pick

Denver could possibly be a landing spot for him until Lynch is ready.

bbbbbbbuuuttt.....all these really smart guys said Romo is worthless........make up your mind....either he is a 20m a year QB or he is Mark Sanchez

Why would DAL just throw away a top draft pick.......just forfeit a first rounder for old times sake

Manning had 4 great years in DEN..........DEN couldn't believe they only had to pay Peyton and DWare to come and join their SB level teams and not also give up picks or players......DAL and IND screwed up letting those guys walk for cap relief alone.......the cap can be manipulated but top players should never be cut

Guess what...my money is on Jerry doing exactly the same thing with Romo. Jerry knows Tony wouldn't be happy holding an IPAD so
he's going to save some money on the cap and let Tony pick his new team because Tony is just like his own son. You may think that's
dumb but, Jerry follows a different drummer.

You have it backwards.........most GMs need to win now and will sell out the future......the Cowboys, Pats and Packers are different

ProBowl QBs are gold.......don't care if they are 36........Romo makes any team he joins an instant playoff team in this parity filled league......that is worth more than a first

Tony is not a Pro Bowl QB and no, I don't think I have it backwards. It's true that every team is looking for a Franchise QB but nobody makes a second contract by trading away 1st round picks on QBs who have started 4 games in the last two seasons, to this point, with big contracts.

There is no proof, at all, that Tony makes any team he joins an instant playoff team. Stop with that, nobody believes that. Heck, there are only a few teams he can even join and have any hope of long term success. One of them is the one he would leaving BTW.

I hate to always disagree but, truth is Tony is a 4 time Pro-Bowl QB.

That would be great if this was UNICEF but its not....it is a highly competitive cutthroat business

Just tear up a first round pick for nostalgia ain't cutting it....especially since we wouldn't even get the cap benefits until after June 1st

Best they should offer is a sign and trade

#1 - I've never said he brings back a #1, I'm thinking its something like a #2 or a group of conditional picks.

And like @bkight13 said, job insecurity makes it MORE likely a GM trades a draft pick for a veteran Pro Bowl QB - not less.

You may not have said he brings a first, but I am saying it would stupid to trade a first for him and it won't happen IMO. I hope it does but I doubt it will. I would love to see us get a 1st.

On your second point, nope. Simple as that. There are a hand full of teams Tony might, MIGHT, be able to take to the playoffs. One is Dallas. Maybe KC, maybe the Jets, maybe AZ, one or two others. That's it IMO.

And DAL screwed up by not trading him instead......DWare getting a ring made me angry, not happy for him.....especially after losing to GB because we couldn't get to Rodgers

Personally, I don't think Romo would return much in a trade, and that is due to his injury history, his very present disc issue in his low back that will always be there, and his age. I can't see any chance of getting a first for him. I think the best would be a fourth that could become a third if certain benchmarks are met.

And as for Theismann, here's a funny story from the 1997 NFL Draft. During the late portion of the draft, a conversation was held about Keyshawn Johnson writing his book, Just Throw Me The Damn Ball!, and his criticism of Wayne Chrebet. The discussion centered around whether the Jet locker room was going to be fractured over what Johnson wrote. Johnson was a guest during the draft, and it got somewhat heated. After he signed off, Theismann went off on a soliloquy about how Johnson was going to ruin the Jets, and was too selfish of a player and likely hated in the locker room, and would never be a leader of the team.

Chris Mortensen then chimed in and said, "Well Joe, your teammates didn't like you very much, but you were a leader of the team."

Theismann looked like someone punched him in the stomach. After the draft ended, my brother and I were able to go up to the ESPN set and shake hands and talk with Mel Kiper, Chris Berman and Theismann. My brother said that Mortensen was a little rough, huh Joe? Theismann nearly had an aneurysm over it. He said very loudly, "MY TEAMMATES LOVED ME!!!"

Classic.

What are you basing the "Linehan is gone for sure" line on? Did I miss something?
Well you take a coordinator who has taken a rookie quarterback and made him arguably the best quarterback in the league
Taylored a system to fit his strengths and what he was familiar with in college

you think there might be some teams picking at the upper end of the draft who are licking their chops
Just saying

No, he wasn't. The only Pro Bowl QBs right now are Brady, Cam, Palmer, Rodgers, Roethlisberger and Wilson. All the rest sat home. Tony has been a Pro Bowler but he isn't now and he wasn't last year.
