John Stephen Jones leads Highland Park HS to 5A State Title Game

If the final is going to be streamed, please provide a link. I like watching good sub NFL football games.

He may have inherited some good football genes because he is an awesome QB at this level.

He got cheated on his height. He looks like he is only 5'8 so maybe he has some more growing to do, both Stepehen and Charlotte are tall.

Go Temple Wildcats!!

My uncle and several cousins went there.

What if this kid gets drafted into the NFL by the Commanders?

Talk about awkward.

Has something like that ever happened? Where the owner of the team has had a child or grandchild in the NFL? I know there have been strange situations with brothers and such but not sure about that.

Awesome story.

BTW, we had 2 local teams make the state finals in their divisions. Refugio and Calallen.

Calallen has the tougher game, but they both have been up there in the state finals, quite a few times in recent years.

Calallen is 5A, and Refugio is 2A. Go South Texas.

Oh yea, our Corpus Christi team is their, Highland Park's, opponent...and with good solid football to bring to the carpet. That's all...

HP plays Temple at noon on Saturday.
Then Desoto vs Klein Collins at 4, and then Lake Travis vs the Woodlands at 8.

I go every year.
Best ticket in football -- $15 for three of the best games of the year, in the best football stadium, sit anywhere.
You can even get a suite for the reduced price of $1000.

I thought the same, but I didn't realize Stephen was so talented.

Stephen was an all-state QB in HS. Dad and Grandpa both played D-I, so the kid's got some pretty good genetics.

Grandpa was a co-captain on a national championship team.

Not to my knowledge.

Haha yeah. Lot of oil money from the Barnet shale too. Had a few buddies and dated a few girls from there in college. All drove $30k+ vehicles, one drove a brand new Range Rover, couldn't fathom the fact I was paying for college myself and my parents didn't just write a check for tuition.

A little out of touch, they are.
There are plenty like that there, true.
Plenty are not though. I'm sure you realize that.

They've had some good players though
The Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw is from there. As down to earth and humble as you can get. No big family money either.
Matt Stafford played there. His family was not wealthy.

there are some brats there too though...as you know.

The irony is that the QB is actually one of the weak links--talent-wise-- on that team.
But he is the leader and plays with a lot of heart.

He doesn't seem like Division 1 talent.

Then again, he's only a Jr.

That will happen when you have the best coaches and training that money can buy.

Being a youth football coach I can tell you at one time this was true. But in all seriousness any dad, coach, uncle, whomever can pull up a YouTube video with good coaching tips/skills, you don't need a lot of money now-a-days. Speed ladder from WalMart only $20 bucks ....

I suspect the Highland Park coach has to be on that list somewhere
