I've been a Jonathan Cooper fan since his UNC days so I was thrilled when the Cowboys made him their reclamation project.
That being said, they really tried to give the job to Chaz Green, so if Cooper were to price himself out of Dallas' desired price range, they'd just go with Green again and let Cooper walk.
We have some big contracts to sign. Cooper,Martin,Lawrence,Irving,Hitchens,.UFA next year. Resigning him while trying to extend Zack is going to be complicated. He's playing well, but I hope he doesn't get to expensive. Want to maintain continuity, bit if Coop gets a Leary type of contract we have to move on.
I agree but there are some big contracts that have to be dealt with. I think we lose some talent.Zack Martin is not going anywhere.
Wish we could get his deal done like yesterdayMore worried about singing Martin. Then franchise for Lawrence, with a deal for Irving following after that. Cooper ought to get a reasonable deal for a couple of years getting paid like a starter. If he's smart, he takes the gig in Dallas.
As much as people want to see us be players in FA, when you hit on your picks and long-term VFAs like we have been, it's hard enough signing your own guys. Whiffing on a couple of mid-tier VFAs could be the thing that ends up costing you somebody in-house you prefer to keep.
The problem with that is, he has sucked in Ari, NE, and was OK in Cle. He is between 2 all Pros and has a third that plays the RG position to get advice from. He is ZBS lineman that has been a "failure" and injury prone until now. Jerry will also probably over pay because he rewards "loyalty" that way. Cooper was 1st rd talent, leary was UDFA arrows are pointing in two different directions during FA this year. He's putting out good film and he is a former top 10 pick. The deal may well be near Leary territory by the time this is all said and done. I'd love to lock him up now.

We should be front loading contracts right now while Dak and Elliot are cheap.
The front office is around Lawrence, Irvin, Cooper, etc. every single day. How don’t they have the data to make a decision???
It takes FORESIGHT to make good signings and set us up in good cap situations.
Unfortunately our front office is dog **** at free agency, or anything that requires foresight.
we let him go because he made it clear he was not going to sign here after the Collins fiasco he saw the writing on the wall. Dallas was always worried about his knee and when they saw the opportunity to replace with younger, more athletic, and medically sound they did. I never thought Leary would be here long term.Leary also had that ticking time bomb in his knee. I think that was one of the main reasons we let him go; but he wanted out when we gave Collins his job. So we would have had to have paid serious money to keep him and with all due respect Leary got more than he was worth from the Broncos.

Cooper must play well longer than most of one year before he will be a hot commodity, IMO.
ZMartin is already signed for 2018 at 9.3m......... a new deal will only lower his cap hitWe have some big contracts to sign. Cooper,Martin,Lawrence,Irving,Hitchens,.
Glad to hear it.ZMartin is already signed for 2018 at 9.3m......... a new deal will only lower his cap hit
Irving is a RFA ....he will sign for around 4m
Hitchens is solid but JSmith will be better next year....... 2-down MIKEs are a dime a dozen
Cooper is no one to invest in unless he wants 3/10m
DLawrence is the big case...... I wouldn't use the Franchise as a plan...... I would offer 4/50m right now with 35m gtd....... Franchising him only sets his floor at 17m+ and ties up the whole amount
DAL should be 30m under the cap next year before they even start cuts and restructures........ they have no issues with finding space
The guy just needed some good coaching, time and some time.
