It's way too early to say it was a wasted pick in my opinion. But having said that I would pull the trigger on MJD for a 6th. But do we even have the money to sign him right now?

If you make the trade it's for a rental. I'd rather keep a 5th or 6th than 10 games of MJD. He's not the difference between this team being a contender or not.

no, any trade that does not include a d-lineman or defensive back is pointless imo

but a fourth rder can't beat out two FA'S

I wish JERRY would have gotten off his a*** and gotten Lacy and Fred

Exactly... go for it.

The risk is you give up a draft pick for a player who is aging, whose production is declining, and plays a position that we have a lot of depth at already and is not really a very valuable position anymore, and who we would likely lose in FA at the end of the year. So, there's actually a lot of unnecessary risk.

Yes...

How many players hit in the 5th or 6th? Draft picks have become ridiculously overvalued. The Jets got Santonio Holmes for a 5th rounder, they've now gotten 3-4 years of production. Would they have gotten that out of a fifth rounder? 98% of the time no.

Even if we get Jones-Drew and he does nothing it's worth a 6th just for the potential that the issue is in Jacksonville.

If we spend a 5th and he goes off behind our much improved line it's a steal, even if we cant afford to keep him next year. Keep in mind franchise tags on RBs aren't that bad and after this atrocious beginning to the season I'm sure Jones-Drews' agent would "advise" him that taking a 3 year, 18M deal with a high guarantee (14m) would be in his best interest as no one is signing a 29 year old RB with injury and production questions to anything more than that.

He could play second fiddle to Murray and fill in when Murray likely gets injured in a few weeks. Playing second fiddle may be motivation enough to get the old Jones-Drew on the field. I'd make the call and do it in a second for a 6th rounder. A 5th rounder I'd likely do it given Murrays injury history. With negotiation we may be able to give a 6th (or really a 7th in this case) with it escalating to a 5th if he reaches production targets.

for a 6th rounder? yes, hell yes.

Not only do you get a guy who is great at running between the tackles, but can also catch out of the backfield and pick up blitzers better than any other running back on this team right now.

I'm tired of seeing demarco murray muff easy lobs on a checkdown pass or miss/hold a blitzing linebacker.

If we ran the ball more, and needed to insure health, yes.

But we are a passing team, with only 11 combined rushes from our backup tailbacks.

Also, the Oline isn't the problem this year. the boys just don't commit. & no one knows what we have in Randle, because he doesn't play.

It'd be hard to run the ball if you have a QB who can't throw the ball and everybody just stacks the box against you.

He shows no burst anymore. He also seems to go down easily, which wasn't the case in years past. Not worth a draft pick at this time.

He's looking pretty good right now.

I don't make the trade but MJD is a good player on a trash team.

People make all the excuses in the world over the last few years as to why Dallas can't run the ball but at the same time they say a guy who plays on the worst team in the league is flat out done because he can't produce.

I don't look at his production. I look at his form. He just doesn't look like the same back. He gets limited opportunities to see open holes due to the team he plays, but I have seen him not take advantage of the few times he has good blocking. In past years he would do a little better with some of the holes I see him get now.

what would his contract cost Dallas? Aside from the issues of which draft pick it would require and how good he still is, could they even afford to pay him given their cap constraints?

You only take a rental if he makes you a contender. Otherwise there is no point except to sell tickets, which is the same move I thought we were all tired of.

Nah - RB's are a dime a dozen these days and MJD doesn't really make us any better.

for a 6th rounder? certainly...I wouldn't go higher...at worst, this is a mid-6th and hopefully, it ends up being a late 6th...and, didn't we just get 2 or 3 extra 7th rounders? not much of a difference in a late 6th vs those extra 7th rounders....do it JJ, do it
