Jones Says Record Won't Be Deciding Factor For Garrett

Firing a coach based on any one season's record is terrible decision-making. Jerry is right to say what he did. However, ultimately, we all know that Garrett's fate hinges on whether or not he wins.

I don't think it would be a decision based on one seasons record...since he has three 8-8 seasons prior to that.

It was not the one straw on the proverbial camel's back that broke it...it was all the weight on it prior to that one straw being added.

Excellent post! This should have put an end to this dumb thread.

Haha you put FAR too much weight on what these guys say in press conferences.

Jerry's goal in these pressere is to sell the team to the fans and to keep the media from potentially dragging the team's focus away from football. That's it.

But people like you, for some inexplicable reason, prefer to think that these pressers are Jerry's vessel to "send a message" if there is a message to be sent. But it gets worse! You ALSO believe that if he doesn't send a particular message in his presser, then that means this particular message ALSO isn't being communicated behind closed doors!

It's hilarious but also kind of sad. Seriously, you guys need to learn about the media's role in sports.

Not at all. I'd have to think Phillips did a great job at acquiring talent - I don't. Simply pointing out that Wade didn't exactly do any favors for the talent level on the team, and therefore Jerry's own ability to judge the performance of his coaches is questionable.

I look at Wade as the silly cat trying to use all four paws when attempting to keep all that was before him...and just couldn't. Wade inherited the Parcells work and lost it following his team having the best NFC talent and losing to the Giants.

He lost it in one game? That's a neat trick. Especially since he won another division title and a playoff game two years after that game. I'd say it was a gradual process.

Duh, as if someone else has a problem with following the bouncing ball...He lost his team...now, since that mark is undiscernible to yourself, play through the hole.

Very true.

Its funny tho, many say this but when they can grab onto a Jerry comment that they can use to support their agenda, or self perceived accurate knowledge of all the inner workings of the franchise, any sense of reason or rational thinking that they may have had is cast aside gleefully and they latch onto the comment like a bulldog with a bone.

Is this English? I know "undiscernible" isn't. This makes even less sense than your original clueless reply. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

No, another doesn't have to accept another's prissiness, even if a label is shuffled about...and the drama isn't worth a comparison, on that comment and self indulgence. You understood, and YOUR properness fell out of the kingdom about the time COMMON LAW became an issue.

That occurred when property became the basis for law, but your description is so full of insights...even with the fellow ring tappers.

Jerry like any other organizational head of any team can say what they want to the media about a coaches security but in the end how the team performs and the record will determine that coaches fate. I have seen coaches and owners claim the HC job was safe and fire them a week later so what Jerry is saying in July as opposed to the end of the year means little. I firmly believe Garrett has to win or he will be gone.

lol, can you just either discuss the topic or just move on? I don't understand why we have to have so many goofball characters on here that post as if they're hearing voices in their heads. I'm sorry for soliciting your opinion on poor old Wade. No need to reply. You win.

Jerry is scared beyond scared that Garrett might go elsewhere and have success down the road once he leaves here. That mortifies Jerry. It would leave him squarely in the crosshairs for good (which he already is but doesn't recognize it.)

That, and a general comfort level, is why Garrett is going nowhere after this season or next most likely.

Gotta love Jerrah-speak. To paraphrase, the last 8-8 season was more impressive than the first two 8-8 seasons.

Huh??

And he stands there today, relative to other similar seasons, moral victories included, as to creating an additional layer that you’re continually having improvement, not tangible but important, doing those kinds of things.

He does not care about regret. And I do not think he fears Garrett being successful elsewhere. He just clings to the hope that his decision to groom him eventually pays off so he gets some credit for it. He just is stubborn and will not admit his mistake until all hope is lost. And with him that takes a very long time for him to lose hope.

The headline would be, "Jason Garrett was an excellent head coach all along that just needed to get Jerry Jones out of his way."

Jerry thinks about that. I guarantee you he does.
