Jones wants Dez Bryant targeted even 'when he's double covered'

That was the game plan last week and we had Beasley drop a walk-in TD, Witten gaining 2 yards off screen passes, and Terrance Williams making a pee-wee football level mistake. We absolutely have to find ways to give our best player the ball, double teamed or not. I'd be 100% okay if we have to line him up at tailback and hand it off. Just get the ball in his freaking hands.

You don't have a rookie throw in the double coverage. Period.

Just because Beasley dropped one pass does not mean you avoid him when he's wide the hell open or has his man beat. Witten and Beasley also picked up some key first downs last week as well, which you left out on purpose.

Some of you are glutton for punishment. Don't throw into double coverage, this isn't Romo with 10 years of experience we are discussing here.

There are instances where you CAN throw into double coverage. Dez is a other-worldly when he catches the ball in the middle of the field. All I know is, you must, and I mean must, push the ball down field.

Dez must do a better job of beating double coverage. Heck, all the best WR's do it.

This reminds me too much of Bruce Coslet's offense where Joey Galloway was automatically removed from the offense once he was double covered.

Exactly, go back and watch every Romo start for the last 3 years and he constantly throws the ball to Dez in double coverage. And I only remember one pick off hand, because Dez either takes the ball away or knocks it down so it can't be intercepted.

This thread has turned into Junior High. We have people who seriously believe Defensive Coordinators in the NFL spend all day watching their Twitter feed for comments from Jerry. In reality all NFL coaches spend 18 hours a day studying film and developing game plans. They know how often Dez has been targeted in double coverage, single coverage, blown coverage and on and on.

Opposing coaches have studied the game film enough to know what hand Dez uses to scratch his backside and what fingers he uses when he does it. But reading this thread you would think they roll out of bed at Noon on Gameday and are only concerned with some comment Jerry gave media.

If drinking and driving is against the law because of the possible results.

How is it drinking and press conferences are not a serious issue which should be looked at.

What we beats double coverage? What happened to Calvin in our playoff game? What happened to Beckham last week? I'm sick of reading this trash about guys beating double coverage. When is the last time a wr beat Dallas while we had safety help on the guy? I'll wait for that answer.

That's when we'd bust out the "TE falls down, gets up, catches a TD" play.

Calvin Johnson 2011 or 2012 (not sure) for 299 yards. They eventually tried triple teaming him to no avail.

Just insert some plays that allow for some YAC, don't care who catches them. Most of our routes are comebacks, sideline or jump balls. There is an occasional drag or screen but they rarely get good yards after the catch. We need our receivers given the ball in stride towards the middle of the field.

This offense is so handcuffed it is ridiculous!

Nah, best is finding ways to get open. Myself, I think TSmith offers more to the team as being the best.
Even if he beat the double doesnt mean Dak throws it to him, if hes doubled he wont be the read. Thats basically the gist we get from Dak himself and Garrett. They take what the defense gives him, not the opposite

Starting in 2014 Romo only threw to dez when he had single coverage.

*sigh* The idea is not to target him when double covered (though at times this is needed), but to find ways to get him matched up on one guy more often.

Jerry is just ridiculous and this is a shining example.

His reasoning is we don't throw it enough to Dez, so we should just be lobbing it to him in double coverage to give him targets.

You can do a lot of things to hopefully get a single coverage match-up. The answer isn't just throw him the ball in double coverage, it's to use some of his attributes, like his physical style on back shoulder throws, and his aggressiveness/play making ability in the middle of the field on some drags or slants on the run.

He runs a go a lot, if they're playing off, do you think anyone's stopping that back shoulder at 10 yards? Put him in a bunch, drag him across the coverage and receivers. Don't just throw it to him on a go route into double coverage.

Washington has a pretty good secondary, and D'angelo Hall is at safety, he's not great but I know he always seems to make a play against us. Not a great game to be throwing it into a lot of double coverage.

So I guess Dez will have another 1 catch game.

Which is why Dez shouldn't be the only target deep. Williams, despite the criticisms, has shown he can beat defenders deep. He has averaged over 16 yards a catch every year he's been in the league. I would much rather take a couple shots down the field to Williams when he's one on one than have Dak throw into double coverage to Dez. Beasley is Beasley, he's a guy who will catch a ball on a 5-10 yard route and shake a couple defenders for a few more yards. Same is with Witten, sadly, but he can be a chain mover. I'd also add in Butler with the deep ball.

The key to getting the passing game going is Butler and Williams I think, if they show up, this singles up Dez and that's good for everyone except the opponent.

I can't tell if the scheme sucks or if Dez is simply the best #2 receiver in the league and nothing more.

Coach Jones has spoken! I wonder what the receiver coaches think about this?

it almost seems like there is more than one definition of double covered.
just dont throw a route that runs into a second defender. but just because there are two guys near Dez that shouldnt disqualify him from a pass.
