The VAST majority of quality tackles in the NFL were picked much higher than Ball. We have been fairly lucky over the years but the odds are against Ball ever really being all that.

Take all Mini Camp stories with a dump truck full of salt..
And look how many training camp stars have turned out to be nothing over the years. Nothing is proven until the regular season starts. There have been guys who were duds on the practice field yet were excellent in games. Those guys are part of the reason so many coaches burn out; its got to be maddening.

Always leery about guys who take a redshirt year over soft tissue injuries. Pads in a couple weeks, will know more then, but that's disappointing.
This is either true genius or unintentional comedy.

Former Dallas Pro Bowler Ronald Leary spent his rookie season on the PS battling injuries until being activated for the final two weeks to protect him from other teams.
He went on to start year 2 and make a lot of Pro Bowls.

It’s early, but the returns from OTA’s and minicamp don’t sound super promising surrounding Ball’s year two development. The rumors out of camp painted a picture of a guy still struggling with strength and technical issues when dealing with speed and power as a pass protector and run blocker. While that’s not great news for the Cowboys swing tackle outlook, it’s still early and a lot of times training camp will tell the real story, especially for guys going into their second year. The Cowboys need Ball to step up and earn the swing tackle job, because rookie Matt Waletzko and veteran Aviante Collins are guys who fans shouldn’t feel good about if they are asked to play much in 2022.
Well, as long as it's only the speed and power rushers he's having trouble with ...

Exactly. Why people even pay attention to these reports until pads come on always befuddles me.
I'm not sure if this Broaddus character is legit or not....however....

I've been playing guitar for 35 years. I can hand you a guitar and tell almost immediately if you have skill or not. You don't even have to plug in. Just the way you hold it and strum a few chords or scales. No band or stadium show needed.

So a real football expert would be able to detect good skills or flaws even without pads....in the same manner, I would think.

Having said that....certainly very early....give the kid at least TC sheesh!

What rumors out of minicamp? Did anyone hear any reports on Ball out of OTA/minicamp?

Maybe I missed it (and I could have)but this is the first anything that I’ve heard about Ball this year.
That's why I posted it. His name has come up a few times here as our swing tackle & I'm real curious about how well he'll do.

The comments can all be traced back to 1 source...Broaddus.

Fans/media don't know the status of Josh Ball.

You keep defending this loser for absolutely no reason. Plenty of reports out that that he sucks. Give it a rest.

Too soon. Not enough data on him. I mean not even padded practices. Contact is limited.

I am not counting on him, but throwing guys out at this point is just silly.

Broaddus is wrong just about as much as he’s right on prospects. That’s both in the draft and when watching Cowboys players in camp. Which, of course, means that taking his analysis on a player is about as accurate as flipping a coin.

To me, when I hear Broaddus saying either good or bad about someone… I pretty much just act like I never heard it at all, because it’s 50/50 on if he’s accurate or not.

I can't recall where I read it but someone noted after mini that Ball hadn't put on enough muscle in the off season and would likely still have strength issues
