You keep defending this loser for absolutely no reason. Plenty of reports out that that he sucks. Give it a rest.

My point is not specific to Josh Ball. I don't like false narratives.

The reports all link back to 1 source...comments by Bryan Broaddus.

Every year Broaddus makes comments about players in this timeframe from the start of OTAs until the 1st preseason game.
- The time when fans can't see the players on the field.
- Fans and pseudo media (bloggers) take his comments and start repeating them and exaggerating them resulting in false narratives.

Prior to camp in 2014, Broaddus claimed 1 swing tackle candidate looked terrible and predicted that he would be cut.
- Broaddus predicted that the other primary option for swing tackle would easily win the job.
- Fast forward 1 year...the player Broaddus predicted would be cut, ended up starting 7 games and giving up a total of 1 sack.
- That player departed as a free agent and received a 32M contract.
- The player that Broaddus predicted would easily win the swing tackle job, was cut by the Cowboys and out of the NFL a year later.

I miss Collins already... Of all the loses this offseason, I think he was the one we should have signed. Oline is one of the most important ways you build trust with a QB and offense. Better to have a established offensive line with drafted backups learning than throw rookies into the mix with no competition.
La'el was terrible in 2021 including the playoff game.

He has always been a dumb player that often takes the wrong angles on run blocks.

I can't recall where I read it but someone noted after mini that Ball hadn't put on enough muscle in the off season and would likely still have strength issues
That was Broaddus.

All of the negatives about Ball from OTAs/mini-camps are just fans and pseudo media (bloggers) repeating and exaggerating the comments by Broaddus.

His comments were based on looking at Ball standing next to some other players, not based on Ball's performance in practices.

The fact that Josh Ball is practicing at RT instead of LT has added to that narrative.

In reality, because the Cowboys are treating Tyler Smith as the backup LT, the depth chart for OTAs/mini-camps was:

LT
Tyron
Tyler
Waldo

RT
Steele
Ball

My take on that is that they had Ball at RT to give him reps with the 2nd string; whereas, Waldo was the 3rd string LT.

Until we see them in the 1st preseason game, it's all speculation.

Its been pretty clear over the years that you will disagree with anything Broaddus says just because he said it. If Broaddus said the Earth was round, you would immediately join the Flat Earth Society and would be their chairman within 6 months

Yes, except what would actually happen is that Broaddus would report that someone discovered that the earth is actually flat.
- Then bloggers and fans would continue repeating that until there were thousands of internet posts about the earth being flat.

I would be the 1st to have disputed Broaddus.
- I would have maintained that the earth is indeed round.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly how much strength is on display in minicamps and OTAs. Technique can definitely be a concern, though. Really, that's all they have right now to look at. I mean, I think it's understood that Ball is not a power player, and neither is Waldo, but we need to see them in full pads before we determine that's an issue.

The comments by Broaddus were based on looking at Josh Ball standing next to some other players.

If he was standing next to Tyler Smith, Ridgeway and Bohanna, then maybe he did 'look' small...

Feels like when the Cowboys reach for lineman they go for weakish types that they think only need to get stronger to be good.

Well, if you are drafting them in the third round onward, they are going to have some major flaws. I guess the team feels it can fix strength issues easier than it can heavy feet or lack of movement skills. It worked to some extent with Doug Free, so I guess that's the model for it.

Great points. Thanks for the reminder that I got that from BB.

Definitely believe we aren't looking swing but at RT. Ball should make the club. Waldo we likely find some way to redshirt.

I'd expect if Steele is out for several games to see Martin move over after a week of practice. McGovern is the 6th best OL at this point and both Tyler and Zack are capable of playing outside (and we know Zack can do that at a high level). I'd far prefer kicking the G's outside over playing Ball or Waldo right now.

The philosophy of Philbin/McCarthy to focus on Right/Left vs OT/OG is interesting.

Zack Martin said the right/left transition is more difficult than the OG/OT transition.

I'm not worried about RT depth because as you said, Martin could bump out.

Even if Martin didn't bump out, the backup RT would be playing next to Martin.

They might move Steele to LT if Tyron is out. Then either Martin at RT or the swing tackle is playing next to Martin.

None of the following combos are appealing to me at LT/LG:
Tyler McGovern
Waldo Tyler
Ball Tyler

More palatable:
Steele Tyler

Josh Ball was not weak in college.

One issue that fans/media overlook is how injuries impact strength training. A player might be healthy but if they could lift heavy for 6 months then that's a big impact on their abilities.

I'm not clear on the time frame of Josh Ball's recovery from his ankle injury. They did activate him for practice at the end of the season but that does not necessarily mean he was 100% healthy. I'm not certain that he even practiced in pads.

The Broaddus comments about how he looked standing next to other players is silly.

Soon to be Hall of Famer OT Joe Thomas would not had looked like much standing next to freaks likes Tyler Smith or Tyron Smith but in games he was as good as it gets.

If you could judge players by looking at them in shorts and tee shirts, Jaylon Smith would have been an All Pro.

If Broaddus indeed commented on Ball’s strength without having any inside scoop , just by looking at the camp when he is standing next to some other OL ( 1st round picks and that too freaks of nature ) then he is dumber than I thought.

If we move Steele to left, it only works with a TE on that side and Zack at RT. I'm unsure we are going to reshuffle that much.

I should have kept a journal over the years of all the moronic comments and opinions by Broaddus.

There was a movie Idiocracy and a TV show King of Queens.
- My book about Broaddus could be King of Morons...

Let’s see what Ball does in camp with our own eyes because his history with domestic violence gives him no favors with the local media. I remember Cavanaugh acted like an awesome person during the player interviews during the draft. The same can be said for Joseph as numerous local media have voiced there displeasure that he is still on the team.
