My parents definitely would have whooped my butt when I got home if I had to get a spanking at school. There is no doubt about that. It's probably also a reason why my butt kept out of trouble both at school and at home and haven't been in trouble really my whole life. I had to face consequences when I did and it taught me how to act and how not to act.

It's a shame that isn't the way it is anymore but hey we wouldn't want people to behave. That would be too easy.

So if someone's sentenced to 1 year in jail, it's really 2. If you get a 20K fine, it's really 40K. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

But didn't Stallworth get a year suspension? And that happened far more recently than the Little case.

Leonard Little was suspended 8 games in 1999. He was sentenced to no jail time and 4 years probation. He did not sit out any games prior to the suspension.

Donte Stallworth was suspended for a season in 2009. He was sentenced to 30 days of jail time and 8 years probation. He did not sit out any games prior to the suspension.

Josh Brent was sentenced to 180 days of jail time and 10 years probation. He has sat out 20 games since his incident. I think that missing game already will factor into the decision. If he had not missed games he would most definitely would receive a year long suspension.

just another guy that cannot be relied upon to help the team any time soon IMO...even if he gets no suspension, I can't imagine he is ready for the grind of an NFL season, even if he is working out heavily at that Dallas area camp as some are saying...

if the team can survive the first 5 or 6 games, there are A LOT of decent defensive players that will be coming back...something to look forward to (I hope)

Jerry had a hunch this would happen.

I'm sorry, but, whatever happens, this whole thing looks like it's been orchestrated from start to finish between Brent's camp, the league, and the Cowboys.

What do you mean? A little confused

Just alluding to what I've said on the topic in other threads. Whatever the result, it looks to me like we're playing out a script here that Brent's camp, the Cowboys, and the league more or less decided on at the time of the incident. Not suggesting a cove-up or anything, just that everybody seems to be acting according to a course of action they decided upon in advance.

Ah I see, makes real sense

Uhhh...sure. If you'd like to compare it in that way I suppose. I wouldn't know cause I never had to worry about getting into any kind of trouble that would land me in jail or to have to pay fines. *Shrugs*

I think it's silly to suspend a guy who just served time in prison.

The league suspends guys all the time, but when it's a legal offense, they usually let the authorities take care of it. Now, Brent has served his time according to law and is deemed ready to take his place in society. What's the point of the league adding a punishment on at the end of that for the same exact offense? Doesn't make sense to me.

That said, I also don't agree with the Cowboys interest in him. He wasn't much to begin with, and he's certainly not going to be better after being away all this time. I certainly doubt he has a place beyond the practice squad with us this year, and I doubt he'll ever be much more than a backup, but I still think the league should see that he's done his time, and unless he broke a league rule during his time away, let him get on with his life.

After a player has dealt with the criminal justice system, a suspension is essentially meaningless, IMO. I fail to see the point because it looks like they are just piling on after the whistle.

I agree. Poor Josh. Piling on. Who among us half not kilt a person while speeding and DUI? Huh? Huh?

I thot so.
