Is 10-weeks of suspension enough now? Now that Goodell has gotten (suddenly tougher) and shifted Ray Rice's NFL punishment?

If Rice's case is a true indication of another direction, Brent should be sweating it out and that guy from the 49ers too.

I say Brent's suspension might well be extended.

But for comparison's sake:
Rice does a KO on a person. She lives to defend him.
Brent kills another person while speeding and DUI. The victim do not live to defend him.
You do the math. Rice: Possible lifetime suspension
Brent: 10 game suspension.
Of course, Roger has not shown that he does or know math . . . .

It seems as if Jerry Brown's mother would like to see Josh Brent reinstated/rehabilitated. I wonder how much of a factor that plays into it. I have to think the way Garrett and Jerry Jones have talked, and Garrett apparently still speaks with Brown's Mother, getting Brent back with his teammates and around football might be the best thing for him.

I'm not sure how much that weighs with Goodell, but I don't see his suspension being extended unless he screws up again.

Rice's change of punishment came after the true evidence came out.
Brent's all been done and hashed out over and over. it's a done deal.

Jerry Brown's mother has defended Brent. And I don't think Rice is going to be suspended for life...even Goodell has said he has not ruled out Rice coming back.

Recently, I had an acquaintance that got in his truck and was drunk and end up killing a man on a motorcycle. This person ended up getting 3-years in prison but he will likely be out in 2-years.

The reason for the harsher penalty than what Brent got is that Brown got into the vehicle with Brent. Whereas the motorcyclist had nothing to do with the acquaintance that was driving drunk and struck him.

While it is awful that Brown died, he does share some of the responsibility for getting into a car with a drunk driver. And that's why I believe Brown's mother has defended Brent. Had Brown been driving in his own car and was struck by Brent driving another car...I think it would be much less forgiving.

There is a concept of "Intent". Ray Rice intended to punch her. Josh Brent didn't intend to kill someone.

Josh Brent = Stupid

Ray Rice = Malicious

So . . . so . . . um, so the victim shares some of the blame, huh?
Yeah, Steven A. might half been correct: Rice girlfriend might also be culpable . . . ouch! i rolled mein eyes so far back it hurt . . .

The NFL isn't going to say "OOPS" again.

Didn't they report that Brown was not drunk?

I'm telling you how the law works. I have quite a few family members in law enforcement and know DUI attorneys and have 2 friends that are law professors.

Whether you like it or not, when a person gets into a car with a person that they know is drunk (Brown was with Brent the entire night and knew he was drinking) and that person gets killed, the law places some responsibility on the victim.

By the law...it unlike the Rice situation.

In similar sitiations, sometimes the Commish's or the D.A.'s or the team owner's support count more.

True and Brent has done his time, gone through the legal process and is on probation he has also gone through the process with the league office. Rice situation is will not play a part in this. There is the other issue of CBA

I don't think it makes a difference according to the law. In fact, it may work better for Brent because the defense could argue that Brown should have been the one driving since he was sober.

In the situation I presented, I know the facts about the case because the judge is good friends with my dad. They went to high school together and for years he was my dad's attorney before he became a judge.

The victim and the acquaintance of mine that killed him were next door neighbors. The victim's family asked the judge to go light on sentencing because they were friends. And the judge still gave more than what Brent (and the acquaintance never had a previous DUI unlike Brent) simply because in Brent's case Brown got into the car with him and shares some responsibility for doing so.
