Saw this from someone today and I'll paraphrase....fire Switzer after 1 losing season; fire Gailey after all winning seasons; fire Garrett after 1 losing season. But we all know most, especially Garrett should have been gone. So we have MM, who was our "step up" and he has 2 losing seasons and 1 WC win. So I guess I'm wondering what they look for? It's changed drastically over the years on the firing front. Is there a standard? Is there an expectation? I think we all have one but they don't. Comfort and close are good by them.

Change for the sake of change is counterproductive. I thought the team would fall hard after the poor start, but they never quit, despite numerous injuries to highly paid "superstars". Respect to coach on that. Is there really anyone out there that could've done better with the hand Mike was dealt? Does Mike even want to return? I really can't answer these questions. Vrabel would be a great option. Belichick would've been ideal. Kellen Moore seems like the obvious choice, but if that's the case, I'd rather have Mike back on board. I don't know what will happen but I will say this. If McCarthy isn't retained and Jerry goes for a convenient hire, especially after vetoing the Bears interview, I won't take this team seriously or invest any sort of emotion until Jerry Jones is 6 feet under and his idiot spawn hands over control to somebody that knows what they're doing.

Has to go.

Why reward failure just because the players want him back?

Jerry is always a year or 2 late doing anything. McCarthy needs gone. I think he's just gettin off on making MM sweat with no intention of bringing him back.

i think Jerry denied bears interview bc bears will pay him more than what Jerry’s cheap *** wants to offer him. he’s making what? 4 mil? you got coaches w the same resume (1 super bowl) and some with no SB making 10-12 mil

Based on what?

If the Chiefs ran the same plays, they'd still win games.

There are no plays to call for this offense and QB.
His clock management and situational management was bad even when he had Moore and Quinn and he was just the head coach. He has dak throwing the ball more than he should and doesn’t lean on the running game but then with rush runs the ball more and reduce passes. That should be the formula regardless. Play calling in the red zone was bad and numbers back it. He couldn’t figure out how to get anyone else in the game but lamb… no motion, no scheme - he has overrated and outdated

I for one hope he doesn't. That's never been the problem. The problem has been FO decisions that put us thin at positions. And health. It's not playcalling. It's play execution.

You're correct. The fo did nothing to fix the glaring issues, and McCarthy can only work with the ingredients the FO gives him. Frankly, I wouldn't blame him if he tells Jerry to eat it and leaves on deadline day leaving Jerry few options. That said, he needs to make it clear to Jerry, as far as the negotiations go, that the team needs better quality players so he can have a chance at success.

Then he should have been fired after the playoff performance last year, and honestly I wouldnt have had any issue if they did. Ultimately though when you get a new set of data you can't just dismiss it because it goes against what you previously wanted. Personally I'm a fan of what MM was able to accomplish this year despite the record. Coming into the season I didnt think this was a very good team, we were near the top of the league in starters missing games, and still played well down the stretch. I've also been very happy with the evolution of the offense during the year and happy with player development under McCarthy. I put way more blame on Jerry Jones for overrating the state of his roster, failing year after year to bring in legitimate run defenders, failing to sign veteran DB depth even after you lose Bland, expecting no drop off after plugging in two rookies to the OL, etc.
I personally think this was his best coaching season as Dallas head coach

True but McCarthy play calling is bad, his attention to small details is awful, and his discipline allowing penalties is even worse
God forbid we ever get the running game working because he'll start passing. We'll rip off huge running plays on a drive, get down to the one, and then pass the ball. And along the way there will be one or two false starts by the same people who always commit them.

Every year, 28 fan bases make these same claims about their head coaches.

It's trite and tired

Maybe Jerry purposely set MM up to resign him cheaper than it would have cost him last year? Stay tuned for the circus in Dallas.

Right….the problem is they think that what they are doing is working, just need more luck….to win 3-4 playoff games in a row.

Pure delusion.

If you’re going to completely pass on free agency annually, and don’t have a very top of the league QB, you’d better have a great coaching staff with higher end schemes. They have none of those, and don’t seem willing to bother to try to improve on any of it.
exactly !
Also the dallas culture sucks, and is soft, and has been a long time, and that isnt going to change until jerry hires a real HC.
Bellichick maybe could have changed it, but jerry wasnt interested.

Atlanta turned down BB, and they wound up 8-9 and missed the playoffs, and they should have and would have made the playoffs
with BB as HC. They have a decent roster, no way they should miss the playoffs.

If dallas had hired bill, they would have made the playoffs, even with the crap jerry pulled in the off season.

no way they should have missed the playoffs

Hmm 11 players asking for McCarthy, then if cowboys FO has gone to McCarthy what's the holdup and notice the inquiry on defense
Omg this isn't a popularity contest. Fire McCarthy and get someone in here that has some attention to detail and discipline.

I dont think that is a crazy thought at all. Its easy to coach when things are running relatively smooth and the wins are racking up. Sports are so much about handling the adversity and honestly the Cowboys did a very nice job of that this season. Was it perfect? Not at all, but I'll take the guy who can rally the troops after getting punched in the face a few times. The issue with McCarthy is they seem to get punched in the face every time the team gets on a roll and becomes over confident. A year of humility like this could help that in the long haul.

I would have like to have seen the same formula used when Dak wasnt injured. His reliance of making Dak pass happy and abandoning the run then making the offense more run reliant and reducing the passes are where I have conflict. The penalties have always been an issue esp being top 5 every year he has been here as well as game management back to when he had Moore and Quinn, and his biggest role was game management. I feel like your last comment has been the issue even in the 12-5 years, lack of discipline, execution and his self admission of not having them prepared is my issues. I dont think you get more than what you already see due to his age and history.
