Not being prepared at times I think is a very valid issue and I don't want to dismiss that at all. I think 2024 was more of a talent issue than a prepared/unprepared issue though. I also wont dismiss the game management issues, although I'm not sure those have been quite as bad as it was early in his Cowboys career. Some of the other items you bring up like penalties and execution though I go back to the flawed philosophy of the front office and their over dependence on youth and cheap players. Failure to bring in a veteran DB when you lose a starter in camp, playing a rookie LT that we knew was a project, handing Mazi Smith a starting job instead of bringing in actual competition early on, etc. To me these are the bigger issues over coaching, and it makes expecting consistent execution and low penalty totals to be unrealistic.
I'm also not sure if the run/pass issues were that much different from Dak to Rush. Yes the overall totals are lopsided, but much of that due to getting blown off the field in multiple games. Against NY with Dak we passed 27 times vs 23 rushes. Against Pittsburg we ran it 31 times. Cleveland 25. On the flip side Rush threw it 32 times against Washington, 36 times against NY, 35 times against Tampa, etc. Now I didnt check every box score so I could be wrong on this, but the actual numbers seem pretty similar when we factor in game conditions. I think the 'how' in the run game changed a bit as we changed some lesser defenses down the stretch and played more power formations under center. That could be a MM issue early on, or that could be more of a QB issue where Dak just isnt as comfortable or effective not being in the gun, I really dont know without doing my research there.
