Weirdly JJ wanted him to be the OC right?
Isn't that the human condition trying to improve always looking for change just because he may have thought it was a good idea two years ago doesn't mean he sees it that way by the way you don't remember some of the little stabs he took early in the season about the play calling the execution blaming it on the coach it was passive aggression but it was there I think most people see it the offensive coordinator part of Mike McCarthy's job is his weak side so if we have to get stuck with him hopefully it's where the new offensive staff that could help the offensive line the running back room and for God's sake the tight ends if anyone not notice how little our tight ends were utilized this year sure blame the player how about we actually look on the field and look at how often were they even targeted and I know some of that has to do with Prescott being injured but our tight ends are not that bad it was more bad scheming and play calling you're not getting guys open you're keeping him in the block so much because you're scheming for your run game sucks so bad you need 9 blockers I mean this is a Mike McCarthy issue but hey if people don't agree with me I don't care I just don't like him as a play caller I would take Kelly Moore back in a heartbeat not that he was perfect but he seemed to get a lot more people involved...

This is all much ado about nothing. MM goes. He stays. What's the difference? The Cowboys have seen coaches come and go and nothing changed. MM won 12 games 3 consecutive years. Then look what happened. Jerry let the team fall apart by doing nothing in free agency, not even retaining some of his own talent, and McCarthy gets caught holding the bag. We keep up this wishful thinking that if Jerry goes in another direction, it will be a different direction. It won't. He is not changing how he does things. He just hires a new HC to do things Jerry's way. So MM or not, the key to 2025 is still Jerry and what he does in the off-season to improve the team. There is no Jimmy Johnson in the Cowboys future. Jerry will not tolerate that.

If he let's MM walk, then it is more likely the next coach will be worse, not better.

And why is Jerry so cheap when it comes to paying coaches? That makes no sense. There are no implications to paying a HC. He should be willing to pay his coaches as long as they produce.

I would have like to have seen the same formula used when Dak wasnt injured. His reliance of making Dak pass happy and abandoning the run then making the offense more run reliant and reducing the passes are where I have conflict. The penalties have always been an issue esp being top 5 every year he has been here as well as game management back to when he had Moore and Quinn, and his biggest role was game management. I feel like your last comment has been the issue even in the 12-5 years, lack of discipline, execution and his self admission of not having them prepared is my issues. I dont think you get more than what you already see due to his age and history.
Not being prepared at times I think is a very valid issue and I don't want to dismiss that at all. I think 2024 was more of a talent issue than a prepared/unprepared issue though. I also wont dismiss the game management issues, although I'm not sure those have been quite as bad as it was early in his Cowboys career. Some of the other items you bring up like penalties and execution though I go back to the flawed philosophy of the front office and their over dependence on youth and cheap players. Failure to bring in a veteran DB when you lose a starter in camp, playing a rookie LT that we knew was a project, handing Mazi Smith a starting job instead of bringing in actual competition early on, etc. To me these are the bigger issues over coaching, and it makes expecting consistent execution and low penalty totals to be unrealistic.

I'm also not sure if the run/pass issues were that much different from Dak to Rush. Yes the overall totals are lopsided, but much of that due to getting blown off the field in multiple games. Against NY with Dak we passed 27 times vs 23 rushes. Against Pittsburg we ran it 31 times. Cleveland 25. On the flip side Rush threw it 32 times against Washington, 36 times against NY, 35 times against Tampa, etc. Now I didnt check every box score so I could be wrong on this, but the actual numbers seem pretty similar when we factor in game conditions. I think the 'how' in the run game changed a bit as we changed some lesser defenses down the stretch and played more power formations under center. That could be a MM issue early on, or that could be more of a QB issue where Dak just isnt as comfortable or effective not being in the gun, I really dont know without doing my research there.

I can agree with most of that but the logic of reason for 2024 doesnt really affect the overall bc its been an issue for 5 years. Its an ongoing issue. Game management has improved but for someone of such a winning culture it shouldnt be an issue. Ill use the Mike Tomlin qoute as well, Coaches are scared to coach. You cant always justify outcomes by youth and cheap, bc older and more expensive do the same on occasion but coaching and the culture you create are important. We cant talk about players playing for a coach then it should be the same energy reducing these penalties. That's a coaching/player execution issue they go hand in hand. We played Tyler Smith after some thought he was a project and it panned out well, again I go back to coaching and player execution, thats not on the FO IMO. He has had the same issues when he had 12-5 seasons as well so I cant give him a pass on talent bc he had a talented team until last year.

Playing calling wise, to me it was a shift, where he goes pass happy with Dak its pretty obvious. Throws are higher volume and PA is lower per pass attempt and the run game was heavy Zeke not Rico. Then Rush has had some high volume pass games but his numbers are definitely lower, and play action attempts were higher per attempt and they had more running attempts but also heavy Rico to very low Zeke. I understand your view I would just like to see more run and playaction heavier calls with Dak.
