ESPN just made the report, the person who obtained the record from the hospital and gave it to ESPN, however...

Though apparently there is something about the CBA wherein players basically waive HIPAA rights? Though this is a non-football issue.

I don't know. Interesting stuff.

ESPN is both complicit in the crime as well as having violated it, too.

  • if the offense is committed with intent to sell, transfer, or use individually identifiable health information for commercial advantage, personal gain, or malicious harm, a fine up to $250,000, or up to 10 years in prison, or both. (Class 4 Felony)

Bad finger to lose. At least it wasn't his thumb.

I am not one to revel in others misfortunes, but If you believe that Mara had a say in the timing of the Cowboy's vs. Giants games this year and believe he manipulated the games to avoid having to play against Hardy (and RoMac if he had an idea at the time he would be suspended) then this would be a perfect example of what you call Karma.

I don't know, but any kind of a serious cut like that, with any kind of raised heart rate, throbs like all hell for a good couple of months. Any pressure on that area will take a lot longer. Now, maybe they put a hard cast around it, but not using that hand will be a big detriment to his game and using a club move with that hand would be out of the question for a good long while.

This is my non-professional opinion, of course.

I am very smart though.

Yes you are:)
I would also think infection would be a serious concern. And D-linemen play with their hands so that will take some adjustment.

No it's not
ESPN isn't covered under the law
Who ever leaked them would be covered

Perhaps they are covered under the reporting umbrella. IDK.

Wow. And there quite a few reports out there in the media implying that "it wasn't that bad". After the dude was still in the hospital a couple of DAYS later it was clearly a serious situation.

And I'm very curious to know what the condition of said hand is overall. Let's not forget, he's certainly not dealing with only an amputated finger here. His other fingers and rest of hand could be pretty banged up as well.

I would think this is going to seriously effect his ability to hold anyone in the grasp.

This is an egregious violation of the HIPAA law. Those also is other patients information on the screenshot of JPP's. Someone will be fined and/or fired for this.

How long does it take to come back from an amputated finger? Not sure why he won't be ready week 1.

Dude the rest of that hand is probably pretty banged up too. It's not like this was a clean cut he sustained while slicing vegetables in his kitchen.

I'm interested to hear what the condition of that hand is overall.

Is it a violation of laws for a patient's medical document to be broadcast like this?

I don't know but what am I missing about medical records? Why is it so important to keep them private?

I'm not saying they shouldn't, there's just a helluva lot of other things I'd be worried about being secure than my medical records. How can criminals exploit this info?

Only for the people the law applies too
Trust me, ESPN is not covered under the law
The law covers healthcare workers, administrators, insurance companies
People who have access to your medical records are covered
Who ever leaked it to ESPN could be in trouble if they can figure out who leaked it and it wasn't authorized by him

Will the Giants still franchise him? Can they remove the tag?

In college I worked in the oil fields and a guy cut one of his fingers off. For YEARS he had to hold that hand up like he was saying "Hi" or else it throbbed terribly. Years. Throbbing pain. Today I heard on the radio that JPP had to have skin grafts too. Tough deal.

HIPAA violation is the first thing I thought when I saw this.
