The NYG get to experience their own Ware situation. Looks like they will do and Dallas did and let him go. I'd pass on him because he isn't the same player he used to be.

Just random, but often have the Cowboys signed players from our NFCE rivals. We see former Cowboys go to our rivals, but never vice-versa. I can only think of a handful.

Philippi Sparks, Jackie Harris, I think. Can't think of any else off the top of my head.

As for JPP, I'll pass.

Good question. I don't really remember any other than the ones you listed.

I'm certain that the Skins are going to sign either Free or Parnell this off-season. They just love Cowboys free agents and they've had some issues at RT, IIRC.

If available, I take a look at him with an incentive laden deal. Make him earn it like Melton has, although I doubt JPP would go for that, I would still check it out.

At 25, he is too young to just give up on his ability if healthy. He hasn't hasn't had the same team around him lately, you gotta wonder what he could do with more help around him. When we play Philly we need more linemen we can just leave out there cause of their hurry up offense, JPP would give us one more guy that could potentially do that.

I would look into it, but it does depend on the money of course. We still have to fill some holes, and JPP could fill one of our largest holes on this team.

Didn't JPP have a sack or 2 against tyron?

If the price is right, you take a look.

Tyron was playing on a bad ankle, hard to do against a speed rush around the edge.

I'd rather focus on building depth with free agency and pay the studs that we've drafted first. For the right price, I'd love to have him, but I doubt the price will be right.

Dallas has 14 pending free agents, they aren't signing anyone significant other than their own free agents and JPP looks like he lost a step and has been a disappointment in New York the last couple of years...

We're trending toward being a team that doesn't pay huge dollars for free agents (I hope, after how Carr has fallen off).

I would say that we likely won't be interested at all. But if we were interested, that would be cool. Right price, though.

Now why do you think NY wouldn't be resigning JPP?

It has been reported by a few media outlets that they might just let him walk. Now that could be just talk, they could let him shop then bring him back, but who knows.

I definitely want to stay away from high priced FAs from other teams (unless their name rhymes with Adrian Peterson or they are a HoF QB).
We're better off (short and long-term) playing moneyball and signing several under-valued players that are youngish.
Half the time, the big-name FAs don't pan out and definitely don't end up playing up to their bloated contracts. Just ask the Commanders...

He's a really good player still, but the issue is the price tag.

He'd make an excellent strong side DE, but he will be paid like a rush end.

Don't know why his price would be all that high. Outside of one great year, he's been pretty weak.

Seems like the main negatives on him coming out of college have manifested as a pro -- lack of motor, plays tall, over-reliance on athleticism over technique.

Free Agency is an opputunity to improve. I think a smart team will use all available avenues to increase their talent level.

I do think that our own free agents are the priority but we'd be crazy not to consider outside talent. Many on this board want to say Marinelli is a miracle worker and while I agree he's a great coach, let's give him some actual talent and see what he can accomplish. JPP is still young and would be the top edge rusher on this team the second he signed a deal. Now, if he's looking for a huge payday, like Demarco Murray most likely will be, then I'd say no thanks.

If signing JPP means moving on from Selvie, Spencer, and cutting Mincey (we gain cap room if he is cut), I would be okay with that and feel that improves the team. If signing JPP means we have no cap room to bring back those 3 I mentioned plus Bruce Carter, Dwayne Harris, Cole Beasley, Ron Leary, and Henry Melton, then he is too costly.

Thanks! I don't know why it had Harris in that group. Needless to say not a lot of folks have come this way from the rest of The NFCE.

Maybe you were thinking Jackie Smith. Harold Carmichael came to Dallas after his career with the Eagles.

That 2011 season is really the outlier for JPP's career. Maybe he is what he is and not the guy from that 2011 season.
