I know it's preseason.
And he's a fine RB.
But his inappropriate statement about Parcells making him into a robot is looking more like the petty excuse I thought it was.
He get 4 yards a carry and nothing more. His gamebreaking ability is a myth and he is not the RB we saw in his rookie season and doesn't look like he'll ever be again. He goes down from one hand leg tackles and runs into piles.

I like him on screens and draws. But for the second season in a row now, I really think Barber's patient run style and strong finishes have earned him the right to at least audition for the primary ball carrier.

JMO.

Barber nor Jones did much because of how badly the OL played. The 2nd unit did good I thought. Tyson was impressive.

All I know is that if Julius Jones has any contact he is bound to fall over. He is fast enough to break it for a large gain, but he can't do much after first contact. That sucks since this is a contact sport after all. If he could bounce off of would be tacklers I would say forget Mcfadden.

Yeah it is like JuJo doesn't put up a fight anymore. I hope he grows out of that.

Barber hands down has better pass protection skills then julius jones. I do not know what is your water but jones is a weak running back when trying to take on linebackers. Barber is the more tougher, muscular, physical, and smarter running back. If Barber got the the carries Jones did he would have a sick rushing average regardless if he touches the ball less. Julius Jones still looked like a robot against the texans so i do not blame BP for that. I do agree that he is good with screens and draws but on first contact he is blown away. It is players like jujo, spears who try to put it on the Tuna. Tunas was a great coach and it was just that we did not get the talent we should of seen out of either one of them.

Okay if people would pay close attention to the game they would know the offensive line did a horrible job of blocking, just listen to the quotes from Leonard Davis and Co.

What's up with the sig pic, Spectre?
It was just a little humor back when we signed Wade to imply that Jerra was merely looking for a spokesman to play coach while HE ran the team himself.

In reality, I love both of those guys and was just having some fun. I think they'll work well together.

Julius isn't instinctive enough, doesn't have enough vision and doesn't make enough tacklers miss to be a freelance guy. He's better off as a robot.

4 yards per carry is the minimum amount you need to average to be a an effective starting RB. He is effective... just minimally, IMO. That's why I said he's a fine RB.
But the take on him has always been that he gives us the best chance to go the distance from anywhere on the field. I haven't seen that potential since his rookie season. He rarely runs for big gains, let alone "go house". I don't see any difference this year compared to the last 2 other than a slightly improved O-Line.

I just think Barber could average closer to the elite production of 4.5 or more. I don't think MB3 is a threat to go to the house from distance either but I do think he could be, overall, more productive than JJ if he were given the same number of carries. I also think he's a better pass protector and receiver.

Why don't you tell John Riggins and his 3.5 average that!

That is not too far off from how I see it.

When Julius is rested, he can put up some amazing numbers. It was good to see Barber in there with the starters in the 2nd quarter--again. It looks like these coaches get it, and will not be giving Julius a 70/30 advantage over Barber in carries, like happened the first half of last season.

Barber will probably get about 40-45% of the carries to JJ's 55-60%, which is more like the second half of last season. If Parcells were still here, he might have given Barber 40-45% anyway this year.

JMO, but I think your opinion is wrong. He looks very much different from last season. Whether he's good enough to warrant not drafting a RB (or whether it even means he's better than Barber) is another story, but there shouldn't be any doubt that he runs differently from the past 2 seasons.

Different? Perhaps.

He still isn't any more effective by my observations.

And last time I checked, that is what counts.

You don't get more points for style. He still isn't breaking tackles. He still is getting downed by the first defender, even in the open field.

I am pretty secure in predicting the dreams of him "exploding" now might be more wishful thinking than reality.

I thought after this weekend, there wouldn't be any threads like this. Both RBs were terrible because of offensive line play but somehow Julius just runs like a robot still. You take away Julius' long run of 12 yards and he still averaged better than Marion's 2.3 average. You take away Marion's long run and he averaged 1.4 yards a carry. This season can't come soon enough.

honestly dont know why this keeps coming up...until the run blocking improves, nobody is going to have alot of success running here

it was average to above average the first couple of games, but it was extremely poor again Saturday night...and of course everyone is calling for Barber to start again, and he had even less succes than Jones did (barely avergaing 2yds per carry and gaining only 14yds on 6 carries)

when you run for only 57 yds on 21 carries as a team against a team with an average defense at best, the problem isnt the RB's...Adams did not play well, Columbo was terrible..the rest of the starters were barely average

And until it does however, who is the better alternative?

If this was the 1990s line, nobody would care as much.

Parcells taught him all that.
