Yep. I scratch my head when Jerry Jones says Julius needs to have a bigger share of the carries, which he said just the other day.

Oh Jerry Jones....sometimes you just need to shut it.

It was an interesting comment to me, because who plays or doesn't play isn't completely unaffected by Jerry's opinion. See Drew Henson.

Yes, cuz coaches are never wrong, right?

Or maybe he remains the starter cuz Wade knows JuJo can't handle Barber's role (3rd down back/goalline back) and he doesn't want to play Barber in EVERY role?

Nah, that couldn't possibly be it.

If we had another RB that could consistently CATCH the ball AND pick up the blitz, MB3 would be starting.

thats pretty ridiculous too

the coaches want to sacrifice all the potential MORE yards they can get on 1st and 2nd down just because they think Jones CANT back up Barber

never mind the fact that Jones is just as good at picking up the blitz as MBIII is, and the two are pretty close as a receiver

come on people...

Parcells just got the benefit of the doubt WAY too many times. It was largely b/c he was a Parcells pick that he generated ALL this hype. Heck-if I remember correctly, more pundits than expected said Vinny would get us deep into the playoffs in '04

If Julius had gone to, let's say, the Bears, the Mel Kiper's of the world would be saying "Eh?".

man, you people are on a roll today with the off the wall crap

Julius Jones plays pretty good in the beginning of the season. Theres only one problem with him compared to all of the other great running backs in this lieague: JJ gets tired.

I don't blame him; a NFL season is murder on your body.

But it sucks for us because I just want a damn franchise back.

What's ridiculous is you don't understand the simple logic behind my reasoning.

C'mon Davey, it's not rocket science.

With MB3's running style he wouldn't last the season if he had to do everything.

What's ridiculous is you think they're equal as recievers.

What's ridiculous is you think JuJo can pick up the blitz as well as MB3.

It's about doing what's best for the team for the long haul. If we lost MB3 we'd be in a whole lot more trouble then if we lost JuJo.

And that's coming from a Notre Dame fan ( a non-home ND fan, obviously).

I think Barber could do everything a feature back needs to do if he's given the opportunity, I mean let's not forget this is his 3rd SEASON! It's ridiculous that anyone could classify him one way or the other when he hasn't had a chance to.

People have compared him to Troy Hambrick, which is just plain stupid since no one knew Troy Hambrick would suck as a feature back until he actually got on the field in that role.

The NFL is full of people in a starting role that at one time were considered inadequet for that roll (See Marques Colston, Rod Smith, Marc Bulger, etc) and plenty of highly drafted players that were not cut out for the feature role (See Charles Rogers, Robert Gallery, Ryan Leaf, etc)

You simply can't say he would be bad or good until you see it, but you can certainly see the potential there to do well.

Prove it.

Look at what JJ has done after his eighth full game and show me ONE impressive performance he's had without at least two straight weeks of 12 carries or less leading up to that game.

Like I said earlier in this thread-the only reason why he got alot of hype initially was b/c he not only's a Cowboy, but a PARCELLS PICK to boot.

Parcells just gets the benefit of the doubt ALL the time. As much as the national sports media hates the Cowboys, I DO remember alot of them saying Vinny/Eddie George would take us deep into the playoffs.

If Julius Jones had gone to the Bears or Skins, all the pundits would have said, "So what?".

You're not gonna agree, but I still think Julius can contribute. I just think he should be used more judiciously. When he gets compared to what we thought he was after his rookie year, then he does look bad. But what he did that year needs to be put in context. He went into that 8-game stretch very well-rested, he took advantage of run defenses all ranked in the bottom 10, and he wasn't Troy Hambrick. All those factors combined made him look like a superstar.

It's funny when he talks about being made to run like a robot last year. He actually had his most consistent stretch of games last year in the first five. But his durability is way down there somewhere between a styrofoam cup and a plastic zipper. He doesn't stand up to a lot of repeated use.

I don't think he ever was a Robot. He just wasn't nearly as good as most people here thought he was. And he still isn't.

And he still goes down on first contact 99% of the time.

I think he's gone from being a robot to a cyborg. He's still going where the hole is supposed to be most of the time with an occasional freelance.

The results of that combination haven't been too encouraging to me.
