Julius Jones, Kevin Jones or Stephen Jackson? Who would you rather have straight up?

Forget that we got an extra pick. What guy do you like the most and why?

Kevin Jones.

He's the best of both worlds. He has the size that Jackson has but he's just as quick on his feet as Julius. It's like if you averaged them both together, you'd get Kevin.

I'd wait till after this season,

they will both be in their second year, hopefully playing a full season

then you can fully judge who is better

Should have made this a poll.

Anyway, I try my best not to be a homer, but I gotta go with our boy.

Julius Jones in his first 8 games of his career (where he was still adjusting to the speed of the game, etc) put up amazing numbers. KJ was just as impressive in that time spand, but he had almost a full season to adjust and learn the game.

All you have to do is look at the games, how many times did we see EG go down in the back field or barely make the LOS? How many times did we see JJ in the same situation, on to completely stop, and embarass the would be tackler and then burst into the secondary like he was running a straight line through a gaping hole the whole time? This kid has moves, adequate power (for his size, its quite impressive) and what maybe the best acceleration in the league. THe only knock on him that I have is that he seems out of control a lot. He is very quick, but instead of doing a smooth transition and taking his time, he sprints when he hits the secondary, often getting tripped up.

We will see who ends up better, imo jackson can't be considered until he is more than a change of pace back.

I agree.

Julius did some "special" things.

Kevin Jones just looked solid. And both were playing on pretty bad teams.

I may be wrong, but I would take Julius all over again.

You should be smitten for that. Tell that to Ricky Williams (back before he quit) or T.J. Duckett. They aren't both change-of-pace backs. They are set-the-pace runningbacks. Speed isn't everything in the NFL. Speed kills but speed isn't any good if you can't use it.

Really so when he was playing did he start full time like Williams,

And on top of that T.J Was a change of pace back, he was brought in to get thsoe 3 and 4th and 1's and goal line he is a pounder.

A change-of-pace runningback doesn't have to be a backup. You'd use Steven Jackson if a defense was small and fast. You'd use Julius Jones if a defense was big and bulky.

By no means is a change-of-pace a back up. They're sound offensive strategy. Teams can plan around a central back. That's why Minnesota's offense was good. Minnesota had three backs that could pick apart a defense. Bennett was that burner. Smith was a big back that could run. Mewelde Moore was that back that could run the goalline. Moe Williams was that balanced runningback.

Any team that has a change-of-pace back... as you see it... has nothing more than an extra fullback.

Ask me again in 5 years. Right now, it's to close to call. Give me a 5 year record to look back on and the answer will probably be pretty clear.

Last year, before the season...
Kevin Jones

But after seeing them both in action, I'm leaning toward Julius.

But I don't think KJ has shown his best yet. He'll probably show alot next year. But so will Julius. he he he

I'm actually dizzy from reading this post. A change of pace back is the guy who comes in after the pace has been set. That would be the backup. You can't change the pace if it hasn't been set.

Well said.

What we have is an all-around feature back, who has the speed to run outside and enough power and burst to run between the tackles.

We got the more complete player, which is evidently what Bill wanted.

I'd take Stephen Jackson. All of them are good. I just like the smashmouth style of runner with a ball control offense.

The one we have. With or without the extra pick. Julius Jones proved he was deserving of the pick and he's the one that is a Cowboy. Nuff said!

No do overs allowed.

Smashmouth is great with the right back.

But Jackson has shown himself to be a bit soft for that role.

No thanks.

Let's see the other backs deal with a pretty serious/painful injury, bounce back with a mission and not miss a beat ........in his rookie year mind you. Then I will put those other guys in Julius Jones class. From what I've seen I'd take Julius any day.

Let's put it this way. I won't be surprised if he has the shortest career of the 3 due to over use. I won't be surprised if he gains more yards than the other 2 due to brute force.

I just like the style. If he fails at it, so be it.

Julius.

His quickness and insticts will set him apart, I think.

As a matter of fact, I think after this season, Julius will be the easy pick for anybody... I think he's going to do that well this year.
