Just fire Eberflus

Crap stat of the night....Eberflus played zone 85% tonight. There is your answer why we got beat....How in the hell can Eberflus justify this after all the success we had vs KC/Philly playing man?
Ultimately this falls on the HCs lap as well. He could literally just say it into the headset, hey Eberflus stop with the zone. He's the HC. The offense and defense are his responsibility.

**** no . God , what is it with this fan base and apologizing for mediocre coaches and coordinators . It is so frustrating and mind boggling

Whose apologizing? I can know Eberflus sucked tonight but be rationale enough to realize changing coordinators every year doesn’t help either.

Evidently , the guy needs coach schottenheimer to hold his hand and remind him that there are other coverages besides zone

Anything is better than playing zone coverage over 50% of the time . The guy’s defense has cost the cowboys at least two games this season before the bye week

Dude loves his zone. On a team with better man players.

Well done, Jerry. So you brought in a zone guy to coach a defense that played man better and then signed Bland, who is a better man guy than zone guy, to a massive contract.

He has zero idea what he's doing.

It does when you keep hiring mediocre coordinators. What kind of logic is this? Haha.

There's no guarantee that "Gee, well if we are consistent at the DC spot we'll get better................" when the guy you want to keep is mediocre.

Again…before the bye week. Has it improved since? 8 straight stops against the eagles, not even saying Eberflus is the answer but there has been enough improvements made over the last month where if that trend continues he warrants an opportunity to come back.

I agree his love of zone is maddening at times and he does make some boneheaded decisions and he wouldn’t have been my choice to be hired. However they have played significantly better and if they can at least end the season showing that then bring him back and fix the holes we have at lb, corner etc

Your basis is Bobby belt which what I’m saying lol. 2 things can also be true btw ; Eberflus had a bad game tonight but the team has made improvements and improved during the course of the season. Which if it continues he should come back.

Secondly, every facet of this team sucked tonight ; o line got man handled, Pickens was bad, special teams sucked. The defense sucked. You’re isolating one part of a team wide failure to execute.

Every facet of this team blew it tonight besides Aubrey and including Eberflus. You just don’t like him so it all is blamed on him.
Oh so Belt can't tell when it's a blitz and not a blitz? Or why would he lie? I mean you could see in the game we rushed just four A TON of times. So Belt is probably accurate with his claim.

Unless this defense is just great these last 4 games, there is zero reason to bring him back. Zero.

I’m fine with him back for one more year with better lb and secondary play. You can’t keep changing d coordinators every single year and then be shocked we never have cohesion or continuity.

The defense has improved post trades. Again, don’t think he’s great but do think he deserves one more season and an offseason to come back.
I'd rather find one that at least flashes at the start and plays to our strengths (less zone, more man) and then hold on to that one. I wasn't against Eberflus when we hired him because he did well in Indy. I haven't been happy with a lot of the choices he's made, though. I believe scheme should fit personnel and not vice versa. I think he has forced his zone scheme in and it's mostly been ineffective.

Didn’t belt say we would win out before the raiders game also? lol. I know he’s your personal Jesus but come on man

It is stupid to stick with a bad coach because you only recently hired him. Just ridiculous to repeat Jerry's talking points.

Wouldn’t the 5 man front be an example of playing to players strengths? And the more man we have seen the last month or so? Again I agree with a lot of what you say. I just think this team crippled the defense to start the year with the slop we had

Jerry sucks I’ve said it countless times. And I bashed both the Schottenheimer hire and Eberflus hire this offseason.

You’re an emotional fan.
You've bashed Eberflus but think he deserves to return.

Haha.

It's not about emotion. It's common sense. Eberflus is a stubborn, mediocre DC, who has struggled to make adjustments this year and has refused to do thing that better fit with the talent he does have.

Oh and let's also point out that his "improvement" the last few games was against a KC team that has struggled on and off all year to score and an Eagles team right now that is really mediocre offensively and can't run the ball on anyone to the point their fans are egging the house of their OC. So the "improvement" needs context.

Detroit was the best offense he's faced in 4 weeks and he and his conservative game plan got exposed big time.

Also stupid to ignore improvements - which the team has shown over the last month

Why should the cowboys bring him back?
The defense’s performance against the eagles was just negated by their performance tonight . Eberflus utilized too much zone coverage again and it cost the cowboys another game . Eberflus hasn’t shown me that he deserves another season

So, when the defense shows up it doesn’t count by your metrics. You seem objective lol.

And yes I can bash a coaches in game decisions and praise in game decisions and be able to separate my emotion from the bigger picture.

If we don’t have the performance against the eagles- tonight’s game doesn’t matter…..that makes no sense

And if we bring him back, we'll get inconsistent, mediocre defense in 2026.

Look at his history. He's been a middling DC and HC that has largely put average defenses on the field.

I mean I might buy giving him time if he had a history of putting out quality, high level, dominant defenses and we could look at the talent and think once he gets more, the defense will be fine. But Eberflus has a checkered past as a DC (and HC who built the Bears defenses). There is no logical reason to bring him back. A couple of games in November where we looked better is most certainly not enough of a reason to keep this guy, especially after what we saw tonight.

And we are facing some average to bad offenses coming up so I have little doubt we'll look better than we did tonight and you'll convince yourself, hey I told you guys, we are improving, let's bring him back!

I like the five-man front and it has been a strength. But even with it and the strength it has been we seem to use it less than we should. I'd play base 5-2 and mix in 4-2-5 in the nickel. I'd probably run a lot of single-high safety behind it with the outside corners primarily playing man.

Eberflus is a 4-3, Cover-3 man and that's what he tends to revert to even if that isn't his best option.

You oversell the "improvements".

Let's dig into the improvement. One game was against a terrible Raiders team so putting any stock in that game would be foolish.

Let's start with the the November games:

Cardinals - Scored 27 on us and they are a bottom third NFL scoring offense, averaging 22 points a game. They pretty much had their way with this defense.

Raiders - Putting any value in this game given how woeful the Raiders are would be foolish. They average 15 points a game which is about what they scored on us. So using that as a barometer of "improvement" is chuckleworthy.

Eagles - This is not last year's Eagles offense. They are not a good offense this year to the point there are loud cries to fire the OC. They scored 21 on us and you may not know this but they are only averaging 22 points a game on offense this year and that would put them near the bottom third of all NFL scoring offenses.

Chiefs - Scored 28 on us and moved the ball fairly easily. We won that game because our offense was really good.

Lions - best offense we faced in over a month and they cleaned Eberflus and his defense's clock.

The good news is we face some bad offenses coming up so I am sure you can convince yourself Eberflus did a bang up job here at the end of the season and deserves to be back.
