From what I can tell there are 3 contracts hurting our side of the negotiations Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Mike Wallace. Every other elite WR on his second contract is 10 mil or less. I can see 13 mil getting it done.
Yes, that's what makes it so difficult. He can be paid as a top 5 and still have a variation of over 6M between #1 and #5.

I see the franchise tag as the max average and tha's right at 13M. Realistically, it's probably better for the team to franchise him than give the 13M average in a contract. If they were maxed out against the cap then the tag would be a problem, but they should have plenty of room to restructure other contracts to fit him in with the tag.

If they had been able to negotiate a slightly better deal back when Ware signed his contract, then he might still be here.

It seems that the Cowboys are putting more effort into negotiating contracts these days instead of just handing them out like Halloween candy.

I'm not certain how you're relating this to dead-money.

The Ware deal wasn't even that bad to begin with, it was that they stacked up so much dead money to this year that they couldn't even come up with a reasonable paycut.

That's just nonsense. Everyone would take a no stars Super Bowl win verses the alternative.

But I mean it's kind of a silly question in and of itself...the more hall of famers you have the better your likelihood of winning it all.

Dez helps this team win games. And he has from the moment he put on the star.
You could have a dozen HOFs and not win if Weeden was the QB.

Obviously, the question is an over dramatization to make a point; although, I would wager that there have been more posts bragging about the greatness of past players than there have been about SB wins. People finding multiple different ways to exclaim the greatness of players seems to somehow make that person feel that they themselves are part of it.

OK, how about giving the Rat a new contract when he was already under contract for a couple of more years? How about Miles Austin and Roy Williams at 9M per season?

I'm not trying to beat on them for past mistakes, just pointing out that if they are going slowly with the Dez negotiations that it's a good thing.

Oh trust me I'm not saying they haven't had idiotic contracts, I'm actually saying they've had so many that even reasonable ones have had to be borrowed against.
