Fields just hasn’t shown the ability to be effective throwing the ball. No one doubts his ability to run and he’s fine as a fantasy QB but there has to be more than that to win.
He needs a lot of work.

Because Dak has played at a high level and is proven. According, Jerry will not get rid of him and pay whatever it takes to keep him. He dies not want to draft a QB high when 75 percent of those drafted in the first round crash and burn.
Yeah. Except Dak made Jerry cry.

Ever make your work boss cry?

Not according to ESPN. They made him a cause celeb and it was made compulsory for every talking head to blame the Bears FO and boost up fields.

Ya know, GMs all across the league heard his lockerroom diatribe where he called out his coaches and blamed them because " the playbook was to hard to understand "

ESPN white'washed that incident as if it never happened .

He's a backup

Yeah, like a brain transplant so he can read a D.

Did you know: Fields averaged the worst longest time to throw the ball over the last 3 years.
The sports media seldom let's pesky facts stand on their way......he was a cause for them

They got Fields cheaper than we got Lance.

You have to give it to ole' Jerry, he fooled us all into thinking he was going all-in this offseason, when in fact he started his ALL-IN campaign with the ridiculous Trey Lance trade! Sure, would be nice to get that 4th rounder back and spend it on someone who can help this team NOW or in the very near future.....................

exactly. It shows us how guys like Dak get paid what they do. Because the alternatives can be very tough. Thats why the QB pay rate sets the market for guys on the lower tier. They are overpaid as a result. The failure rate is really high because its hard to know if a guy will translate his game to the NFL level. Which is why the Steelers just did what they did. They aint convinced this draft has the next good QB worth taking. Neither am I. It shows you how damn lucky we are we found Dak in rd 4. Nobody knew he was this good, or would be. That is why many NFL coaches think its a good idea to spend a late round pick on a QB every other year, to develop them in the pipeline just in case. I know many think Cooper Rush is a bum, but we found him as an UDFA and he has shown he can at least be serviceable in a pinch. Its not easy. We took a low risk getting Lance and I agree on it. You just never know if the light will suddenly come on given an opportunity.
Justin Fields is a Trey Lance development project, and hopeful insurance as a No.2 backup, if Russell gets hurt, and he's
a possible future replacement in case a Russell decides to call it quits in the NFL, as well as be a replacement should
Russell's game becomes so horrid in Pittsburgh, imo.

In Dak's case, a Lance is not gonna have quite a " near future, look out replacement " as Dak finished second in the entire NFL in league MVP voting, that may not mean much to disgruntled fans, but that means very much to this organization and
to Dak's peers among other NFL players and teams.

Cooper Rush makes the counter best of what physical limitations he has. He has a small arm, immobile, and little to zero escapability. But in the right scheme, he can get the ball out quickly, read progressions, and make better decision making and get into a rhythm, if he is not forced to have to handle the entire offense on his own (zero run game?)
He's a band aid until we find something better ( Lance?)

For what it is worth, . I'm all on board with keeping Rush as insurance should a Dak or Lance get hurt.

Sure but anyone would have picked Wilson and Fields over Pickett and Tribisky
It shows the Steelers are not gonna just stand pat, and settled on a failed former 1st rd pick investment. (Pickett)
They are making the moves that other non-QB teams probably should have done so.
(ala Raiders, Minnesota, Giants, Denver) ..and if Rodgers gets hurt again at age 41, .who becomes his needy backup ?

If Dak wasn't on the Cowboys he wouldn't finish second in voting..period
