That's exactly what he did. There's also no definitive way to claim he covered half the field either.

Edit: he ran from the "E" in RAIDERS so not half the field.

Lets talk about how his bad angles dont even allow him to be in good position to make a tackle.

OK, lets play along with that. Lewis clearly has the best ball skills in our CB group. If he is also the best tackler, why does Kris Richard - considered one of the best secondary coaches in the NFL - have him 4th on the depth chart?

Some have a different view of the secondary as to present play:

Linebackers Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch need to be more consistent in their run defense and cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Byron Jones need to get that physicality back to their game that the line of scrimmage because it has been missing this season. If they can get those two aspects fixed during their bye week, this defense could be just as dominate as it was last year.

I know people hate Jeff Heath, but this is just quibbling. Especially when you start from a post saying "Jeff Heath can't tackle for ess"

I said "analysts", meaning Broaddus types, NFL Network, etc. There are a ton of good posters here and I do think you could do that job, but XWalker is the only guy that breaks down the All-22 and spends the time on it - and that is what it takes.

I agree in general but the officiating has gotten so bad that I'm really only going off the lack of terrible calls. The roughing penalty on Jaylon was tickytack but it was still within the rules, so Im not counting things like that. In the GB game there were four calls that were just made up out of thin air, like the TE tripping and falling into Jeff Heath - who got called for defensive holding. Calls like that are a joke and we didn't have them in this game.

I agree on the Jaylon PF. And, as muc a I hate to admit it, the Woods PF was legit under today’s NFL. But the game is definitely over officiated today. Too many calls get made based on the visual if what happens to a layer, rather than an actual infraction actually occurring. E.g., the zebra sees a player go down, therefore, an infraction had to have happened.

Hes not one of the best secondary coaches not even close. He can leave with Marinelli tbh. You do realize our pass defense was worse last year than in 2017

Here's one place:

Football Outsiders said this after the 2018, based on analysis and stats:

Jeff Heath can not tackle. We noted last year in this space that Heath had more missed tackles (11) than defeats (six). The problem got worse in 2018, as Heath's 22 broken tackles were the second-most allowed in the league. Heath just isn't a starting-caliber strong safety; he's a quality special teams player who has been promoted beyond his skill set.

Their analysis for 2017 wasn't much better. If you like Pro Football Focus, they had him as one of the worst tackling safeties in football as well in 2018, which would seemingly back up the Football Outsiders analysis.

KD Drummond over at USA Today's Cowboys Wire also said this, providing a breakdown of missed tackles on run and pass plays:

Heath is a fan favorite, as during more lean years of defensive talent he led the club in forced turnovers three seasons in a row. Once those are stripped away, all that’s left is a very athletic player who misses a boatload of tackles in every game. Heath missed 13 tackles in the run game per Pro Football Focus, the most among any safety, then chipped in another six misses in the passing game.

His tackling efficiency among those who played at least 535 defensive snaps was the second-worst in all of football, 63rd out of 64 eligible players.

Heath is not a very good tackler. It's not just random Heath hate here unless you thinks guys like Drummond, Football Outsiders and PFF are Heath "haters" too.

But I will say this, while he was pretty dreadful in 2018 and 2017, he's been better this year. He had some key stops in the Eagles game, for example, including a big stop on a third and 4 early in the game.
