If the draft process was working, every area of the team wouldn't need upgrades and depth. It is as simple as that.

I would say that the Roy Williams trade was the issue more than the drafting process itself. Bobby Carpenter through that period were some lean years.

Do you not think that the approach has been different in the last few years?

Only reason I say no is because I believe there is something to the theory it doesn't matter who is on the back end if the front is weak. But guys on here really calling Eric Berry overrated? Wow. I guess that's what y'all do here, overrate our guys and undervalue everyone else. Kids a bonafided stud. In fact, if it weren't for the media's obsession with them boys in Seattle he'd be talked about as the best safety in the game.

The guy has had one above-average season in pass coverage and people want us to make a move on him. Not coincidentally, that season is when Halo, Houston, Poe, and others are unleashing hell on other quarterbacks. If my choices are we can address the pass rush by losing draft picks and salary cap and adding players in the secondary OR we can just actually address the pass rush, I know which one I'm taking.

Yep. He doesn't play at an All Pro level like most seem to think. I get the pleasure of watching him each week and there are games he just disappears. He is good don't get me wrong I never said he wasn't.

thats every pick lol. you spend your first on a Guard or DE...they going to make you a contender? nope. So I guess just ditch all draft picks! LOL

Exactly! If there is somehow we could get him for a 3rd, thas a steal. fact is hes better then anything else we got here. I do see some potential in Wilcox tho..

Sorry, wrong. That's why you keep your draft picks and use them rather than trading them for players. A draft pick equals young talent at a position of need with a rookie contract. Trading for Berry would cost you several draft picks, meaning it would cost you the opportunity to fill several areas of need, all at reasonable salaries. On top of that he is going to command ridiculous dollars.

I'm not saying he is not a great talent, and not worth crazy money. But having him on the team is not going to put us closer to the playoffs than we would be by filling several other holes on the team with quality young talent. And there is still the possibility that we could draft a talented safety and still have picks to fill other holes.

Keep dreaming that KC is going to give him away for a third...

What looks so good about 3 ints and 10 passes defensed that you would consider trading to get a guy fixin to need a contract? He's got some nice other stats but wee need a pass defender beside Church.

What??? There are maybe two players I'd prefer over Berry in this draft.

If that were all that went into it, then it would be fine, but that's a very naive way of looking at it.

Trading a 2nd for Berry only makes sense if he makes us a contender, which he likely won't. Unlike a rookie Berry will consume a lot of salary cap space and will also be in his prime now, as opposed to a rookie, who hopefully will be hitting their prime when we are contenders.

Give them a second and it's a win-win. Eric Berry is better than any safety in this draft. He's young, already hitting his prime. Draft DL in the first, get Berry with our second.

Preach on about the greatness of the great trade up for Mo. That draft produced an overpriced bust that cost the first two picks and a couple of role players. When was the last time this team hit on a later round pick that became a starter. A quality draft produces later round picks that to more than just play s couple if snaps a game. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. This squirrel hasn't been able to do that. The RKG process has not produced stellar results.

A bust? a little early no?
I like Crawford, Hanna, and expect Johnson to step up this year......but go ahead and make claims cause I can to ;)

Even with a large cap hit it is worth it for a 2nd. Berry would be the best safety we've had in 12 years and is a top 5 safety in the league. Safety's can play long, he could conceivably have another decade.

Safety doesn't matter if the QB has all day to throw...there is no DB on earth that can cover endlessly like our secondary had to do last year

no one was talking money...only draft picks

a 1st for a proven YOUNG performing safety > 1st round for an unproven player at whatever position.

Everytime a talented player gets put on the trading block, the logic I see from people being begging for a trade is:

"You get a guaranteed stud for an unproven draft pick(s)"

But they don't consider how valuable that rookie contract is. Cheap, young talent are usually found in abundance on great teams. By having young talent making peanuts, that allows you to give out boatloads of cash to free agents WITHOUT having to give up picks.

Trading multiple picks for a stud sounds fine and all, but you also have to consider the huge contract you have to give out.

I do think Berry is a game changer though. KC was really good at shutting down TE's last season, and Berry was a big reason why. He made Witten invisible.
