Forgive me, but the reason for the move from SS to Weakside LBer is what - injuries ?

Probably because big safeties are becoming dinosaurs because of all the spread offenses. He's good in short area coverages so linebacker makes sense. And he could always play some SS if they need another thumper on the field.

He’s fine when he runs straight ahead or downhill. Terrible lateral movement.
