I like Jason Garrett as a head coach. I think he's a good organizer, tries to build his team the right way and isn't bad as a motivator.
The only thing I can't stand about him is his offensive system. I think Garrett got to used to the 1990s Cowboys teams that could line up and beat teams running the same play over and over again. Week to week, this team can't do that and it only rarely displays the creativity to allow it to overcome those shortcomings.
Other teams roll their quarterback out when teams show the ability to penetrate the pocket (saw too good examples of that last week). Not Dallas.
Other teams use play-action on a regular basis (with or without a running game) to suck up the linebackers and open things up in coverage. Not Dallas ... the Cowboys instead decide one of the rare times it should use it is on third-and-long when teams know they're going to pass.
Other teams move their best players around when defenses are committed to stopping them. Not Dallas.
Other teams use draw plays and screens at unexpected times when defenses are overaggressive. Not Dallas.
At least Bill Parcells understood he had to throw in a few Jap plays to keep defenses on their toes, but Garrett seems to only seems to believe in his take-what-the-defense-is-giving mantra, even if that's playing right into the defense's hands.
If it wasn't for Tony Romo, Garrett's system would be seen for exactly what it is, a no-trick pony.
